Could someone please check the status of www.discount-security-cameras.net

Category: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Photography/Security

I first submitted to this category in October 2002. I resubmitted about a week ago.

Other questions:

1. Did I do myself a disservice by resubmitting again - am I at the end of the line now?

2. This category hasn't been edited since October and there is no editor assigned to this category. I sent email to the editor in the parent category and haven't gotten any response. Is there anything else I can do? If I offered to edit the category would they let me since I do business in that area?

Any advice or info is greatly appreciated!

Not listed. Not listable. "Step 1" of the Submittal Policies at http://dmoz.org/add.html explains why.

A problem many spammers have with that section is that they think a site has to fail EVERY one of those tests to be unlistable. That is not true; it just has to fail AT LEAST ONE of them.

Thanks hutcheson for your reply.

It is certainly not my intention to spam - I hope that's not what you meant by your last post. Can you help me be clear on what exactly the problem is?

Is the issue that our company has a few different web sites - each focussing on a different area of security products (this one focusses on security cameras). There is a little overlap between the sites but each one has its own focus and unique products. Is it failing the unique content rule?

Or is the problem that our old dsn (www.discount-security-cameras.com) is already listed in another category?

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Security/Products_and_Equipment/Surveillance

First of all, it is my understanding that its OK to be in more than one category, right? If this is the problem I could use some more advice - In October (I think) I put in a request to rename the old dsn to ".net" and move to the above category. I can't remember if I got any response to that but the request wasn't granted.

Perhaps it seems ungrateful that I want the site moved to a different category but unfortunately it makes a world of difference how I show up in searches. Other than that there doesn't appear to be any differences between the kind of sites in the two categories. In fact, several of my competitors are in both categories.

The last thing I want to do is piss anyone off here - I'm just looking for feedback. Thanks.

There is some overlap currently between those Business and Shopping categories but that situation is currently under review. In general, though, if you sell security products online and you are not an affiliate/dropshipee/MLM distributor (or any other nonlistable shopping site), you should be listed under the Shopping category, not the Business one [that's a general "you", not necessarily your site in particular since I haven't actually looked at your site].

Yes. You either did not read or read and did not follow the submittal procedures, which list _this_ kind of site as one that should not be listed. (You are also free to read the editor's guidelines, for other possible ways of saying "this is the kind of site that doesn't have unique content.")

Now, I'm not about to tell you how I found other domains (or portions thereof) selling the same product (or different product) from the same retailer, or other sites selling different products from the same source. The attempt to hide the actual business entity information was fairly feeble, but my purpose is not to coach anyone into hiding that information better (there are experts at that sort of spam), but to suggest that you read the guidelines.

I can't give any more information than is contained there, I can't express it any more clearly. I can only suggest the insight that THIS is one of the kind of sites specifically UN-solicited, because (as with the other proscribed classes) none of them offer unique relevant content. -- which is what we are after.

Adding _irrelevant_ content will not help that. Adding promotional blurbage will not help. Hiding the corporate information better will not help that. Even adding links to the company's other sites (which will help their visibility on the net) will not affect the basic fact.

It is not listable, and cannot be made listable.
