Hi,

Our site was listed in the following category:
http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Ideas_and_Activities/

It stayed there for over 6 months. Then it was gone. We read some of the reasons that this could happen so we waited for sometime to see if we had been changed to a new category. That didn't happen so we resubmitted again to the same category:
http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Ideas_and_Activities/

Could you please let us know the status of our submission? We don't want to submit to somewhere else not knowing if it is going to be accepted back in this category.

If it did not fit this category could you please let us know where you think it would fit so we can submit it properly.

Thanks in advance,
Sharon

The resubmission has been received and is awaiting review. If you don't see it listed sometime in the next six months, please feel free to return for a status update on or after 27 December.

Thank you for the quick response. You answer has taken alot of doubt away. I will wait to see what happens and with a little luck, hopefully, it will be sooner than Dec. :)

Thanks again,

Submission Status

Hi,

Hope everyone is having a Happy Holiday Season!

You said that "The resubmission has been received and is awaiting review." and to check back. It has been six months so.... we are checking back. :)

Could you please let us know the status of our submission?

No change in status.

Although you didn't ask, the original was deleted from the category for the usual reason: Lack of unique content. I don't edit in that category, and I didn't look at the site, so I don't know if that reason was accurate, or is accurate.

Hi Arubin

Thanks for the response. Of course I could debate all day long about our unique content..... which is the last thing you editors at dmoz need.

Maybe we should list our site in a different category. We do fit in the following:

http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Ideas_and_Activities/

http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/On_the_Web/Web_Portals/

dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/

dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Pay-Per-Click_Advertising/Search_Engines/

dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Pay-Per-Click_Advertising/Search_Engines/Small-Scale/

I could go on..... but I won't

Should I submit to these categories, and if yes, which one?

Thanks in advance,

Quick Question About Information

Hi Dmoz Editors,

Happy Holidays to All :)

We were not aware that our site was removed for the usual "lack of unique content", but the information was appreciated.

The response from the Editor really was apreciated! We know you are busy, over worked and under paid!

Could someone please let us know if we should go into the other categories that I listed above in my last post?

Our directory is dedicated to places to go, things to do, items to buy, and date ideas & tips for your date. We are not a clone of any search engine or directory on the internet. :)

Since Dmoz lists other search engines that pull results from the major search engines & directories and doesn't consider them to have "lack of unique content" ...... we are having a hard time wrapping our brains around that one.

As I mentioned in my last post, we feel we belong in http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Ideas_and_Activities/

If this is incorrect, please let us know. We will resubmit to another category, if that is what the hold up is.

We also realize our category doesn't have a editor of it's own, so we are confused as to how our small category was targeted and our website plus a few others were removed.

In any case, if someone would please help us out by letting us know how to proceed we would appreciate it. We do not spam dmoz, never have and never will. We respect the job of each and every editor and know that you spend you free time doing this.

Again, Happy Holidays to all :)

Thanks in advance,
SharonC

No.

Do not submit to any other categories.

The concept of lack of unique content is not one that is predicated upon the given category. Not enough unique content is not enough unique content.

Instead, take a critical look at your site (I haven't looked, so the following is generic):

Is there extensive content that cannot be found on any other website?
Is the unique content easily found, or is it buried under a mess of affiliate ads and pop-ups?
Is the unique content lost amongst the non-unique content?

When asking these questions, pretend that you are your biggest competitor and give the answers they might give -- you'll find the process enlightening, and it may well define a path of future action for you.
