Hello,

I would like to inquire about the status of www.fury-tech.com, submitted to the following category:

http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Technical_Evaluations_and_Product_Reviews/

At the risk of being too wordy, I will mention that I only post my request here due to my continued efforts being unsuccessfull. I have submitted Fury-Tech.com to said category perhaps 4-6 times over the past year or more. I have always spaced submissions well over a month, and tried hard to adhere to all guidelines.

I understand that there are thousands of "fly-by-night" hardware review sites, but Fury-Tech has been around for over two years, with a very dedicated community and visitor base.

Primarily my concern stems from reviewing the category I have submitted to. There are a few errors (grammatical, old links, etc.) - so I am concerned that this category is not actually being moderated. This is not the forum to discuss particulars, so I will try to find an appropriate place to do so.

Thank you kindly for your understanding and consideration.

Without checking that cat you mentioned, I see that a copy was moved by an editor to http://dmoz.org/Computers/Education/FAQs,_Help,_and_Tutorials/Chats_and_Forums and it's waiting review there. So that editor decide that s a good place for your site.

So the first thing to do is stop submitting, since it really doesn't help you, and can in fact delay the review, since each submission is likely to remove the previous one. And in fact you must have missed the guideline in http://www.dmoz.org/add.html that says Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once.

Makes sense to me - thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Where is the "I'm an idiot" smiley?

See above. :(

Your help is appreciated!

We forgive you since a year ago it might not have said it quite so obviously :)

Hello,

I'm just wondering if there is any word on submission status for Fury-Tech yet. It has been 10 months since the last request, and over two years since my first. :) Not trying to be a pain, just wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks.

P.S. I'm not even sure what my submission looks like anymore, or whether it's 100% relevant. My site has maintained a very similar focus, but it has matured a bit as well. Just thought I'd add that in case the currency of info is relevant.

I see no change in status of your submission since the last report. Sorry not to have better news. :(

You may ask again in 6 months, although I (and we) don't know what good the answer will do you.

Oh well, I give up. I reported a skew of bad links in a major category 10 months ago too, and every one of them is still bad. And they were bad for a long time before that. There are some incredible hardware review sites out there that are being ignored completely (and I'm not referring to my own site ;)).

The saddest part is that DMOZ is not accepting editors for the above category. Why on Earth not? I would gladly donate a little time to making that list relevant, and saving the tens of thousands of people who have probably been misguided from the hassle.

I just think it's too bad. It doesn't look like even ten minutes has been invested into the above category, and evidently submissions have been ignored for years now.

I know DMOZ has people whining about the injustice every day, so you'll probably roll your eyes and commence ignoring my site for another two years. This isn't a personal rant, my site is doing just fine without being on DMOZ. But why do you bother existing if you cannot even fulfill your most base purpose?

The web continues to grow at staggering rates. Automated search engines are increasingly unable to turn up useful results to search queries. The small paid editorial staffs at commercial directory sites can't keep up with submissions, and the quality and comprehensiveness of their directories has suffered. Link rot is setting in and they can't keep pace with the growth of the Internet.

Instead of fighting the explosive growth of the Internet, the Open Directory provides the means for the Internet to organize itself. As the Internet grows, so do the number of net-citizens. These citizens can each organize a small portion of the web and present it back to the rest of the population, culling out the bad and useless and keeping only the best content.
Please note that this is not flame against you arubin, I truly appreciate the sympathetic response. I just want to provide my honest opinion, as I personally would rather hear the brutal truth as opposed to a comfortable lie.

Thanks for your time.

The category is considered a little too large for a new editor, even disregarding the unreviewed area (which I haven't looked at). An exceptional application might be approved -- remembering that I'm not one of the editors who makes that decision.

I agree that your post #548 in the Dead Links thread should have been looked at -- I posted a note at the end of the thread to that effect. For what it's worth, something happened in that category less than a month ago, as can been seen from the date at the bottom of the page. I don't know what it is, but it's not entirely dead.
