I submitted this site, via bCentral, on June 28. Is there any way to find out if it has been rejected? I may not have submitted it to the correct catagory as I didn't understand how the directory worked...do I get the chance to re-submit?
Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I am new to directory submission and I did not record exactly which catagory I submitted to.

At least one submission was to Recreation/Travel/Specialty_Travel/Cruises/Travel_Agents - where an editor decided it should be rather listed locally in the hometown. But he had problems finding the local address so he was unable to move it and had to remove it instead. If you resubmit, please choose your hometown yourself, thank you.

Wondering the status of my site submission. I submitted about a month ago(late Aug/early Sept)..travel/specialty travel/cruises:travel agents/North America/United States/Connecticut.

Thank you for your help.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that we've decided not to list that site for want of unique content.

any chance you could elaborate? why is my site singled out..technically every travel agent site has the same content...why do you list so many of them? If you want "unique content" you really only need to list one..Also, I devote a page to "Homeland Cruises" on my site, something that is rather unique.

Just trying to understand..thanks

No, not every travel agent's web site has the same content. I just looked at a few, and I see quite a variety of offerings. When I look at getreadytocruise.com I see exactly the same offerings as on many other cruise sites. That's what I meant by lack of unique content.

why is my site singled out.

While that whine may sound nice to you, the fact of the matter is that you have no way of knowing how many other sites we have declined to publish for lack of unique content.

It is not impossible for a travel site to develop unique content -- but it does require some original work.

Think about this:

If you use material (photos, descriptions, write-ups) that are provided by the cruise line, there is little or no possibility that the material is unique. Ther PR department produces it in droves. If your site include material that is taken from the lovely, high-gloss, four-color brochures that the cruise line produces, there is little or no possibility that the content is unique.

If, however, your site were to begin to describe the crusie experience with your very own words, illustrated by photographs taken by your staff, the owners or the agency, or from customers who have been on the very cruises that you sell, then that is a first step towards unique content. A couple of first-person narratives go a long way in boosting unique content.

We understand that everyone selling space on NCL lines is pretty well limited by the ships in the line and their sailing dates. We strongly believe that our customers -- the people who search our directory -- are best served by not finding 18 nearly identical cookie cutter sites.

So go add that unique content. People who have been on cruises love to tell everyone within earshot about the good, the bad and the ugly about their cruise. Get them in the office and capture some of their magic and get that onto your website.

If the site is full of cut and paste, it is not unique. If the site is not unique, we aren't going to cut and paste it into the directory.

There was really no need for such a snotty and angry answer...I am new to the internet and to directories/search engines. If I don't ask questions, how am I to learn?

That answer wasn't intended to be snotty, and certainly wasn't angry. (Our "snotty" responses are usually short.) Spectregunner gave an extended response because he thought it was a fair question. And I'll reiterate: it was good advice.

You have to understand what we mean by "unique content". Marketroids think "unique" content is something that targets someone who hasn't yet been targeted. WE don't. We think "unique" content says something that hasn't yet been said.

For example, if your site focuses on the CRUISE LINES -- sorry, we don't care about it. They're already listed. But if it focuses on YOU -- YOUR unique personally-provided services, YOUR customers, YOUR location -- then THAT'S unique, even though (just like a real estate agent) you're selling a commodity you don't even make.

Having information ABOUT the commodity won't KEEP the site from being listed -- it just can't get it listed.
