Your submission from 24/Jul/2003 is still pending in that category, but it is unfortunately very backlogged. I would suggest bookmarking this thread and returning in three months if you still don't see it listed. Sorry the news isn't better. :(

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I am not sure why my listing shows as posted on 24/Jul/2003 because I have been posting regularly once or twice a month continuously since March 2003. I resubmitted a few times because it sometimes gave me errors and I wanted to make sure that my entry was in.

Question 1) After submitting a website for inclusion into ODP, does a resubmission before it is reviewed by an ODP Editor take my listing to the bottom of the queue? (If yes, I have been making a terrible mistake continuously for a few months now.)

Question 2) I now feel like my site is probably more appropriate in the following category:
http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Alternative/Herbs/Ayurveda/
If I resubmit my site into the aforementioned category, will I get into the bottom of the queue again?

(my original submission was in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Alternative/Herbs/)

Question 3) Does the http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Alternative/Herbs/Ayurveda/ category have a shorter queue than the http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Alternative/Herbs/ category?

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Priya

The answer, is yes. It may not affect you, however, as editors are not required to sort by date. Some may, some may not.

I'll just move it, I am currently working in that category on url updates anyway.
Yes, it does--although an editor is just as likely to process all in the upper queue than go to that category so it doesn't necessarily mean it is quicker if that makes sense.

Thank you so much for your clarification. After several months of frustration, it is a relief to finally know why my site has not been included in ODP yet (although am a bit disappointed that the reason turned out to be the resubmission every month).

As you offered, I would really appreciate it if you could please move my listing of http://www.herbalprovider.com to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Alternative/Herbs/Ayurveda/

I will keep my fingers crossed for an early favorable response.

Sincerely,

Priya

The site suggestion now waiting for review was submitted on July 5th and moved to the Ayurveda category on September 1st. Most sites in this category have been waiting even longer. But it is up to the editor to decide which sites to review first. He or she may start with yours. Or he or she does everything else first. You really can't tell. But we can promise that your site will be reviewed.

Yours,
Robert

Can you please let me know if there are many other sites waiting in that category? Can I expect my site to get reviewed anytime soon?

Thank you.

There are under 50 sites waiting for review in that category. Due to the volunteer nature of the directory it is impossible to predict how long it will take for your site to be reviewed. Someone said something pretty good in here, a review in 2 hours is good, a review in 2 years is a long time, anything in between is normal.

Good Luck.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

Would it be possible to change my url from http://www.herbalprovider.com to http://www.herbal-provider.com ? We have already converted most of the links on our site from herbalprovider to herbal-provider and are eventually planning to use herbalprovider only as a pointer to the main site.

In short, can you change my url from http://www.herbalprovider.com to http://www.herbal-provider.com ? Can this change be done right away, or will it take a long time?

Thank you

Hello,

You'll need to make URL change request though the "update URL" link at the top of the category page.

And, to quote another editor: If you can put a message on the old site to say that it has moved then we'll do it. We're very wary of changing URLs where there's no clear indication on the old site that it has changed.

Thank you once again for the prompt reply. Currently, both the sites point to the same website (which is www.herbal-provider.com). We have taken extreme care to ensure we do not violate the policies of any search engines.

My question is :
How long will it take to change the url from http://www.herbalprovider.com to http://www.herbal-provider.com ? Will we have to wait as long as it took to get included in ODP (several months)? Or is is something that can be done fairly quickly (in about a week or so)...

Thank you.

It goes into the same queue (unordered!) as new URL requests. And there's no predicting how long it will take. You can possibly shorten the time by configuring your server to return error code 301 ("permanent redirect") when people access the deprecated URL: our automated linkrot inspector will flag the site for attention, and it will get handled with higher priority.
