Hello I want to know the status for the site ...
http://www.homepyramid.com

I submitted the site under the category ...

http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_...ess_and_Economy/Construction_and_Maintenance/

I submitted when I first launched the site about 2 months ago and didnt know much about this stuff. My description wasnt very good and had promotional type of language in it so Im not sure if it was declined because of this or not. I also believe that I could have picked a better category ...

http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Marketplaces/

Anyways, any updates would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Go ahead and ask about them all: lots of business sites are eligible for two listings. (Chances are we'll just have to clean one or two of them up...but we can sometimes look up multiple submittals a little bit faster. We don't bring out the tar and feathers until you submit to the fourth category.

Usually.

Thanks! Wow, it really does take a long time. I thought the michigan one would maybe go through by now! I applied to become an editor for the michigan category (to help speed up the process). I figured that I was declined because of conflict of interest reasons. Is it possible that I can be an editor but just not edit my own site? Thanks

Update?

Hello, I was wondering if I could get an update regarding my submissions? Also, I think that I probably submitted to too many categories, will this hurt my chances? Can I delete submissions? Thanks for any help that you can give.

Forgive me but I can't work out what this site is all about - quite important when it comes to making listing decisions - if, and if yes then where.

I don't see the relevance to Michigan

I don't get where the unique content we so crave is actually located on the site.

All I see is a form where people pass you on their details and what they want doing. Sounds like a recipe for getting non-stop sales calls.

"Find a local company for your home improvement project" - look them up in a directory maybe? So what does this add?

If there is content there then we have to be able to spot it in the 60 seconds it takes to decide whether a site offers real valuable content or is harvesting contact information and not much else. If it isn't "in your face" and obvious then the chances of being listed are slim - it doesn't mean it gets rejected always, just sits there until an editor works out what it is.

Thanks OneEye. An Update.

Thank you OneEye for your comments. I think an outsider's perspective has really helped us. We understood what we are, but if you couldn't, others probably couldn't either. We have updated our site and have made what we are WAY more obvious. We are a marketplace that allows customers to compare multiple home improvement companies and quotes online.

Also, we do not "just harvest contact information". We actually have privacy options to help protect a customer's contact information and identity if they choose.

We are based in Michigan and that is where the majority of our business currently comes from, that is why we chose Michigan.

Also, is there anything else that we could do to help speed up the process? Resubmit with a better description?

Thanks.

The site still awaits review in those. I won't check Michigan as I can't see any way it would fit there. Can you do anything to speed a review up - no, just be patient. Changing a description won't help at this stage, most all of them are changed by editors in any case. Reviews can take days or years, there is no way to predict. In fact there isn't a lot to be gained from asking for status updates once you have confirmed the site has been received - if and when it is listed it will appear on the Directory so a better way to find out the status is simply to check the categories from time to time, and perhaps do a search. If it's there it's there, if not it's not!

When it comes to a review, especially for a site positioning itself as national and in the USA as well, an editor will be looking for lots of original content and I mean lots. And clarity as to what the site is about and why it would add invaluable value to our Directory. Personal view only - I am still unsure on that score, unsure enough not to list it, maybe. Maybe the site is clearer about what it does, but unique content? I still don't see it. Maybe the editor reviewing it will (it won't be me), maybe they won't - it is up to you to show, on the site not here, lots of evidence that there is real substance behind the concept and you do it better than anyone else with the same concept. You still might not get listed, there are no guarantees, but it can't do your business any harm to be the best can it!
