We've tried on at least 3 occassions over the past 12 months to submit www.iconplus.gr in the directory and have had no success. The last category we posted to was http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/AudioVisual/Production/Video_and_Film/ .

We know that the person who was originally responsible for the site used automatic submission software. Is it possible our url has been blocked as a result of such actions, and what can we do about it?

Also, we see in the ODP rules that sites that redirect to another site will not be included. Our site redirects to another page (within the same site, however) depending on the language preferences of the user/browser. Could this be reason for exclusion?

PLEASE:

1 - Wait one month after you suggest a site before enquiring here.

2 - Do not suggest it again, it's there.

It is waiting for review there. No need to resubmit.

Sure, we'll give you details on the specifications of our anti-spam approaches (or lack thereof). Do you need to know how best to get around them also, or can you figure that out yourself?

Sorry for the sarcasm, but that is a _way_ inappropriate question.

This will not be a reason for exclusion; and in any case we don't exclude sites because some URL somewhere redirects to them; we'd just include the REAL URL if we listed the site. But here even that is not an issue: it is normal and necessary for the domain name to "redirect" to a page somewhere within the site: and we simply list the domain name.

No need to resubmit. No need to worry. The site is just waiting for review.

It seems to me that the category needs major work (regional or alphabar breakdown). If I were you I wouldn't expect to see much work on the unreviewed sites until that was taken care of. Watch the category, and begin to hope when you see that happening.

Also, does the company have a local focus? If so, submit to the locality where it's based.

What we had in mind was more along the lines of maybe having to apply somewhere to have our name removed from some blacklist.

You're a very suspicious bunch!! (but you have to be...)

Thanks for the replies, folks

Yes, we are a suspicious bunch. And the spammers who provide most site submittals are a devious bunch.

You shouldn't be thinking of "automatic procedures", any more than an honest bank customer is concerned about locations of hidden cameras. Worry about your character, and the character of people you do business with, and your reputation will take better care of itself than you could ever have done.

Actually, if you ask about a site here, and the editors see any possibility of a site both deserving an improved reputation and being able to get it, there will generally be some guidance given.

I've seen some sites that I personally thought may have deserved a better reputation, but I didn't see any way to communicate a route to them. (Unethical SERP perps can permanently destroy your reputation beyond anything volunteers may be able to repair.) And there is always the issue that volunteers by definition work on what they consider valuable, which often DOESN'T include reducing the true costs of really sleazy SERP work. We don't have time to clean up after all the sleazoid SERP perps out there, and it's not our mission. It wouldn't be fair to honest webmasters to waste all our time that way.

These precatory remarks are all general: remember, your site is simply waiting review.

Our FAQ has some good info. :)

Read about waiting times here.

As for a status check, our policy has changed, and we now do them every 6 months as explained here.
