Please could you let me know the status of

(at least i'm pretty sure it was that category - i didn't actually make a note of it, but it's where the other driving schools are, so it should be where i submitted)

Not there I'm afraid and neither has any editor moved or declined it. I suggest you resubmit it.

Added: You actually submitted in Bury so I've moved it over to the Middleton pile. You need do nothing except be patient .

Thanks for your help, and thanks for going the extra mile to find where i had submitted it.

I've been to look at the Middleton section and the Bury section.
Are you sure Middleton is the correct section? - Yes, this business is based in Middleton, but it covers the Bury / Rochdale / Oldham / Manchester area, so Bury would be appropriate as it's area of operation (Middleton is just a little place, Bury is its nearest big town), and Bury contains a category:

which would appear to be ideal (middleton does not have such a category)

I've seen people advised to find similar sites in order to find where their site should be placed, and I notice that one of the sites in bury...driving schools is for another driving school covering a similar area and located on the same road in Middleton ( you can see one from the other ) - if they are correctly placed then this surely should be the correct place for jemdriving.

Not true. It merely covers whoever wants to go to Middleton to receive services. We don't prejudge who that might be, or how far they might be willing to come. (And not relevant anyway.)

And therefore a Middleton site is much more unique, and more valuable to us because of its locality. Given a choice, we're going to want very badly to put a site there. (Not that we have a choice here.)

So what? So does Croatia! But the business is in Middleton. That's the way our regional guidelines work.

It's worth noting that the ODP isn't like the phone directory -- plonk down your money to be listed in all the different phone books you want. It's based on where our editors, operating under our guidelines, think the site ought to go.

I'm hesitant to send this because I don't want an argument, and I appreciate that you're all volunteers... I just want this site to be treated the same way as other sites...

OK - but why has this rule not been applied to other driving schools in middleton?

Not true. It's a driving school. The instructor goes to the client. The area that the instructor is willing to cover is far more relevant than the postal address of the school. Perhaps this point was appreciated by the editor who placed the other Middleton driving school in the Bury section.

It's not how they're being applied.

If you see sites that you believe are missubmitted, we encourage you to go to this forum and make a report that includes site URL, title, category and why you believe it is in error.

With nearly 5 million sites, some are certainly located in the wrong place. We would rather fix a site that is categorized incorrectly than intentionally miscategorize another.

I see what you are trying to explain however we do not list sites in that part of the directory based on coverage - instead we list on physical location or location(s.

As advised if you have details of any sites please do let us know. As I have a an hour or so spare I will have a look in the Bury section to see of I can spot anything misplaced but as you have the advantage and already suspect you know who they are please consider reporting as per spectregunner's post.
