I am so confused. I have submitted my site about 3-4 times over the last 2 years and still no listing here. I am listed on all the major search engines but not here.
My site is http://www.montanodesigns.com
In the Category:
Top: Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Full Service: M
I own a professional web design and development firm in Charlotte, NC. I am even listed in the American Cities Business Journal as one of the top 25 designers in Charlotte. But still can't get listed here. I sure would like to know why.

We have completed 32 mid to large sites this year all with links back to www.montanodesigns.com, yet when I check my links back it only shows 3 of the sites.

It's quite frustrating when I know that potential clients are searching for my company and services and find less qualified "designers" simply because they figured out the "tricks" to getting better listings/ranking.

Someone please explain this to me.

Kindest regards,
Cindy Montano

It seems you submitted it to

Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Accessories/Handcrafted
Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Decor_and_Design
Shopping/Holidays/Christmas/Decorations

Was there any reason for this?

Actually yes

Way back when, I had intended this site to be for selling crafts I did in my spare time. This was before I went from freelance designer to a full service design firm. Isn't there a way that I can edit my category listing since I am here already. I did a search for Montano Designs and nothing came up. Was it here then deleted for lack of matching content?
Thanks
Cindy

Since that category does not accept sites - I assume you mean http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/Full_Service/M/

And the probable reason you did not get a full answer in the first place is that you failed to supply a clickable link to the right category in your first post in November.

Someone else will have to answer since I have no access there.

However, you had better hope that the editor that reviews your site does not use FireFox [and a large number of editors do] since several pages fail to work correctly or have very slow performance with that browser. If I was reviewing it, I would not accept it.

Your site is waiting there for review.

I don't think you will be accepted for that category - please read the category description and the one for Basic Service very carefully. You don't offer hosting or domain name registration except via affiliate links which we ignore for review purposes. The editor who eventually reviews it will move it if necessary so please don't resubmit in Computers again.

http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...ters_and_Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/ will also consider the site for an additional listing if you would like to make a submission there too.

I have submitted my site about 3-4 times over the last 2 years and still no listing here. I am listed on all the major search engines but not here.
We're not a search engine, each submission is checked by a real live volunteer, and your site has been reviewed 4 times in the last 18 months, all in totally unsuitable categories - hence no listing. It can take 2 years or more for a site to be reviewed once so you've done pretty well so far.

So, sit back and wait for the Computers submission to be reviewed, make one further submission to the Regional branch, then visit us again in 6 months to get an update.

I didn't realize that an affiliate link would disallow me from the full service cat.
Affiliate links don't disqualify sites. We ignore the affiliate links and deal with whatever is left. Sometimes that is nothing whatsoever. Sometimes it leaves enough for a different category. Sometimes it makes no difference at all.

An affiliate link (or any other kind of advertising) that can arguably be considered a convenience for the customers of your actual unique services, doesn't disqualify you from anything.

But your site is placed based on what it uniquely offers, not what kind of advertisements it runs.

Don't hold your breath. You've asked for a status check; we check at dmoz.org.

It's all right to hope. But my advice would be to base your site promotion plans on the worst case scenario -- and your actions won't have hurt you if/when an ODP listing does appear.
