My site portaldesign.com used to appear on search engines,
then suddenly disappeared. I resubmitted the site months
ago, though I don't remember the exact date. My company
used to be the first one listed on search engines if the
words "portal design" were put in. Now, it doesn't even
show up! And I've received no information as to why
it disappeared, or why my submission months ago has not gone through.

Help please! This is hurting my business.

Thanks,
Robert

Why blame us? As far as I can tell, it was never listed in our directory -- although we would be better able to tell if you could tell us which category it was listed in.

It's possible that your site was listed in a category we've reconfigured ( http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design/Freelance/Individuals/P ), and removed by an automated process which (twice) found it down on two separate occasions a week apart -- and an editor confirmed the URL produced a DNS failure. Perhaps the other directories noted the site was down, rather than noting that it was no longer in DMOZ.

If you've found a stable host, you may submit to the new category -- probably http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_S...lance/North_America/United_States/California/

This is not something we can help with, nor would it be ethical to try. We list sites in a directory.

I can confirm that your site has never been listed here. It has been reviewed twice, and gave a DNS error both times. (Such an error would wreak havoc with search engine spiders: and my uneducated guess is that's what happened to you there. But I digress.)

The site "works" for me now, if you call loading the first like a crippled turtle "working". (Are you doing something odd with redirection on the default home page? I don't see anything obvious in the HTML: the table layout isn't at all convoluted, although I confess a weakness for the COLSPAN attribute and an ancient hatred of glow-on-dark text -- but I digress.)

Anyway: I would recommend resubmitting the site: that same category, http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/Design/Graphic_Design/Freelance/Individuals/P is not a bad start.

I can't promise a quick review (we never can), but if the DNS error doesn't return, the search engines may not be a problem: but don't let me talk you out of getting advice from competent search engine people -- who talk shop elsewhere.
