ps extra question: I've applied to be an editor in this category, so would I be right in thinking that if I'm lucky enough to be accepted, the chances of my site appearing in this category may in fact be reduced, if not actually forbidden - or will it remain the same ?

Not at all, as long as you tread carefully and ask for advice before listing your own site. It's also nice if you reviewed a bunch of other sites before yours. Listing you own sites is just fine, if it's done according to protocol.

Where are protocols such as you mentioned to be found - or is it an "gained experience" thing?
