Incidently the guidelines specify that you are welcome to request a status check one month following the last submission (this is for the exact purpose that you mention) and that subsequent requests are then six monthly.

Hi, Any change on my status?

I'm noticing that the category I submitted to doesn't have any sites listed now. Does this mean the category has become parent category only? I am likely to appear in a sub-category?

That's what it looks like, an editor would just push it down to the right spot when reviewed. To be in that category, you would have to do everything in the sub-cats - an all in one place that is a gallery, school, artist, studio doing painting, piercing and tattoo work.

It hasn't been moved (yet). It's also apparently waiting in http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Beauty . (Someone is having trouble categorizing the site).
