Hi,

First I'd like to say that I hope no one gets mad at my requesting a status update. I've noticed that a lot of replies to requests have been quite curt and impatient. I don't think that those of us who are posting mean to be pesky newbies but are simply concerned about being posted on dmoz, which we understand to be a very respected site. That being said, any help will be greatly appreciated even if just telling me how long of a queue my submission is in or even if my editor is still active, as my category hasn't been updated in 2 months.

Thanks!

First let me say that I think you have misinterpreted the replies. We are here to help -- if we didn't want to help people by answering status requests, we just wouldn't bother to answer at all. Are some of the responses brief and succinct? Sure. We could spend time filling each post with smileys and flowery language, but that would also take time away from answering other posts or from adding new sites to the directory. Most posts ask a direct question, and they receive a direct answer.

Now, there are a couple of special cases. First, there are the people who argue about the status of their site, despite the Forum Guidelines. Although most receive detailed polite explanations, eventually, editors' patience may be worn thin -- which is why we discourage arguing. Angry exchanges help neither editors nor submitters.

And then there are the initial posts that don't follow the Forum Guidelines at the top of this forum, marked "READ BEFORE POSTING". These posts often receive very brief, usually quite polite, replies, even though the posters apparently haven't taken a few moments to acquaint themselves with the rules of the forum before posting. We certainly recognize that everyone makes mistakes, and that new participants may miss one or two items on their first read-through, which is why we briefly point out the rules to them.

Incidentally, your submission was apparently made on 08 July 2003 (two days ago). The Forum Guidelines ask that you wait at least a month before requesting status. When you do, please reuse this same thread.

[Added] By the way, we don't comment on the activity of individual editors. Comments would not be helpful in any event, since there are many editors who can edit in any given category (all those with privileges in categories higher on the branch, as well as editall and meta editors). And a category may be edited at any time -- regardless of whether it has been touched recently.[/Added]
