Could you help me to understand?

uzs980, Thank you for your quick response.

If I understand correctly my site was rejected because of the price comparisons that are supplied by pricegrabber? (affiliate) I think its good information for those looking for digital camera reviews, and it is an information site.

After checking the sites in the catagory that I submitted to it seems that most of them have a large number of affiliate links in them.

uzs980, do you see why I can not make heads or tails of this?

Thank you
Mike

Listed sites will be re-reviewed occasionally. Sites with too much affiliate links and too little original content may be delisted.

The editor will be asking whether the content is primarily consumer information ("informational") or advertising ("promotional") in nature. The latter basically gets an instant reject.

consumer information

Hi hutcheson,

The affiliate links in question are consumer information in purpose. They have generated less than $10 in 10 months. I keep them on the site as a price comparison for my visitors and by the # number clicks they get I think thats what they are used for.

I'm new to this so I have to ask. Is my site DOA? Any recourse?

Thanks much
Mike

Please read the forum guidelines

If your site has been rejected, please keep in mind that arguing about the editorial decision will not be tolerated. Please note that at the bottom of the "add URL" screen it says "Netscape and the ODP have unfettered editorial discretion to determine the structure and content of the directory" and "a site's placement in the directory is subject to change or deletion at any time"

Your focus on the affiliate links leads me to believe that they are really the primary purpose of the site (and if that is correct, therefore the site MUST be rejected).

Our focus is altogether otherwise. We ignore the affiliate links, and look elsewhere to see if there is any real content on the site. The problem with the vast majority of sites is ... there ISN'T anything but affiliate links and shameless promotion thereof. And for such sites, if you took away the affiliate links, you'd have nothing but one long text advertisement. The affiliate links do not cause such sites to be rejected, in fact they don't cause ANY site to be rejected.

What causes sites to be rejected is INSUFFICIENT UNIQUE CONTENT. Affiliate links are just one example of kinds of obviously non-unique content.

hutcheson,

I want to thank you for trying to help me to understand a few things. After rereading the forum guidelines I see that I've asked a few too many questions.

Again, Thank you.

Best to you and yours
