Status on www.amb-it.com - Disappeared? - Help.

I do not understand why our web site has disappeared from the DMOZ directory. Everytime I try to re-submit, I get an internal server error. Can someone help me please?

Re: Status on www.amb-it.com - Disappeared? - Help

I could not find it when searching by URL. Thank you. I submitted an update for the description.

Since I have your attention, we serve multiple countries/languages and have special pages that are in each language we would like to submit. (like www.amb-it.com/de for german) How can we do that without hurting our listing?

Also, we supply timing systems to more than just motorsports. For instance we also do running. If I try and submit under running, what would that do to our listing in motorsports?

[Just a comment as a user: forcing surfers to have cookies enabled just to look at your main page is really annoying. I understand that you want cookies for interactive items like forums but having non-relevent items not load because of no cookies is excessive IMO]

You can submit the site to any relevent language category. If the main page has links to the different languages, submit that URL, not the language deeplinks (I'd check but I don't feel like turning on cookies just to see that).

As for shopping, you can have your site can be listed in the one most appropriate category. I didn't visit your site, but you can be listed in other World categories by language if the site is in various languages without problem

edited to add: [motsa beat me, but I'm leaving my response as it addressed the shopping question]

We require cookies for the site because we have 3 different regions, 7 languages and 10 sports we deal with. I have posed the question to our webmaster to see if we can work around cookies.

In the meantime, I tried submitting our site to the correct directory location in German,

http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=World/Deutsch/Sport/Motorsport/Automobil

and get an internal server error after submission. Can you help with that?

>>Can you help with that? <<

No. You'll have to suffer with all of the rest of us as the servers are being upgraded and replaced and all that.

Wow, such sarcasm. I am very new to this process, and was looking answers, not smart comments.

A note to submitters that "servers are down and submissions are not possible at this time" would be nice.

You mean like this thread, called "FYI: Submission Troubles -- Please Read!" which is right at the top of the Submissions forum?

I'm sure that you are more than welcome to pass on your observations to anyone you choose (though I don't know why Google would care what an ODP editor says or does in any case). This forum, while created and frequented by ODP editors, isn't an official part of the ODP and therefore not under the control of AOL/Netscape/TW.

Personally, I see the remarks noted above as being a statement of fact, not an attack at anyone -- both users and editors are suffering from the server problems and the only recourse both have is to wait it out.

Submissions _are_ possible. When they'll succeed is unpredictable, but the chance of success is not 0.

Re: Status on www.amb-it.com - Disappeared? - Help

Actually, a note on ODP at the top of the submission page BEFORE people go through the trouble of filling the submission form out that there are problems with the servers, and that their submission may fail for just that reason. Otherwise, it just looks unprofessional to get an internal server error, and most people will keep trying unaware of the server problems. Most submitters never see this site to read your post notifying them of problems.

ambitus, I think that is a good idea. I will bring it up to staff and see whether that is technically possible.

Thanks very much for your constructive suggestion.

Hey, nicksahadi, give it a rest. Congress doesn't care if kctipton uses the words "suffer" or "thingie." Really.
