Could you please update the status of my URL: http://www.ateasenantucket.com/
I was attempting to put it in the following catagory:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...etts/Counties/Nantucket/Business_and_Economy/
I believe this catagory to be right on the money for proper location...I spent hours comparing sites and catagories, etc.
It was submitted only once, late last year...Mid December I think.
It has been viewed by DMOZ editors on Jan 23, 05 and Feb 3, 05.
A little feedback/guidance would be most greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your time.

Was looking for a little more help than that...I can see that it's been viewed by editors at least twice. The content is good, and contains none of the items listed that generally slow or prohibit a selection from being accepted.
What more is involved in this process?
Thanks for any more info/light you may be able to shed on this.

The site hasn't been reviewed by editors. And ... there are in fact many editors that won't ever review it.

As your web developer will tell you if he's honest, Flash requires ActiveX support to be turned on, to work in Microsoft IE. And turning on ActiveX support in the IE opens your computer to all the world's hackers -- so no sane surfer will ever do it. Well, not using IE, at any rate.

The other 10% of surfers (the real browser users) may have safe Flash plugins, but ... if editors, may choose not to do anything to exacerbate the security problems of the hapless IE users.

Eventually, an editor who USES Flash and DOESN'T use IE (or who is just crazy -- we have a few of those too) will check out the site. But Flash is worse than a big turnoff for knowledgeable surfers, and I'm willing to bet that's what turned away the two editors you noticed, as well as possible other ones you didn't notice. (And no, you won't see us all!)

Helpful...

Thanks for the detailed response. It's helpful to know what to get fixed, so as to help the process out, which I think in the end will make the web a better place...no?

I did not know my site had flash, I'm sorry to admit. I will talk to the designer, and see what we can do.

Also, are you telling me that it's your opinion that a site with flash will no longer make it to being listed on DMOZ?

Many thanks for the help.

Sites with Flash will get reviewed, I review them all the time, but not in your category. But it requires extra effort, an attention to security, a high speed internet access, and in many cases patience to wait for slow acting sites. ON a busy day, I will skip past them and review something that's easier to deal with.

You might consider that if editors avoid looking at Flash sites, so might your potential customers.

[My personal opinion] Flash in most cases is an attempt by a web designer to show off his fancy talents, and may not be the best thing for most web sites to reach and attract customers. Of the Flash sites I review, I think less than 1% of them use Flash effectively, mostly it ends up a sluggish mess combined with non-standard navigation. Note that I have not even looked at your web site - so this is just a general statement.
