Please wait at least one month between submitting and asking for status here.

Thanks.

Hi, thank you for replying.

My site has been submitted for one month.

But unfortunately I just realized that I shouldn't resubmit it.

I resubmitted it about 2 weeks ago.

The submission has been received and is awaiting review. If you don't see it listed sometime in the next six months, please feel free to return for a status update on or after 24 January.

sometime in the next six months
- should be read very strictly

07-23-2004, 08:09 PM + 6 ==> Jan 22 08:09 PM

and has no connection to the date you submitted the site

Hi, now it is February 15 2005. It is a month passed the date you mentioned it would be ready. Is it ready yet? Thanks.

I see no change in status in that submission since the last report. However, it was rejected from yet another Business category since your last status report. You do realize you've been listed in http://dmoz.org/Home/Apartment_Living/Roommates/ for over 9 months, don't you.

You may ask again in this thread in 6 months.

I know it is listed in the roommates directory already. But the purpose of creating this message is for the Real Estate Rental directory, not the roommates one. 6 month + 6 month... how many 6 months do I need to wait? If it is really that difficult to make a decision, just declare my request. Why do you ask me to wait for another 6 months? I can tell the answer would be the same 6 months later. It is not I don't wait or I am impatient. It is you broke the promise!

No one promised you that in six months anything will happen. How could we, we have no way of predicting when editors will review sites.

But you are probably right, since I notice you submitted it to another Real Estate category, that you failed to mention, and an editor deleted it there. After a while editors start to notice when someone keeps submitting to multiple categories, and don't rush to deal with it.

I listed which category I wanted to place my website in the first message. What else do you need me to mention? Giving your exactly the directory location is not enough? I created this message and ask for the status of my site, and an Editor deleted it for me from your directory?! I submited my website to this Real Estate Rental first. While I was waiting for an answer after submitting here. I read your submission guidlines on http://www.dmoz.com/help/submit.html#multiple. So I realized that I could submit to multiple categories. Then I submitted my site to the Roommates categoy. After 3 weeks, it was listed successully. However, the best match category that I want is the Real Estate Rental, is still waiting. You guys told me to wait 6 months. OK, that is fine. But after 6 months, you asked me to wait another 6 months. Do you think this is right?! I never submitted my site anymore since I created this message. I know your directory is the best and the biggest one in the world. And it is free. But this kind of service is really ridiculous.

Ok, the problem is that your perception is that you are experiencing bad service.

The problem we have is communicating to you and everone else that we don't provide the service you think we provide. ODP offers a way to a suggest a site that might be considered for inclusion. ODP does not offer a service to list sites. Once you understand that - it may not make your life any better, but you might have some better understanding of what the ODP is.

This forum is independant of ODP, and tries to provide the status of a site that was suggested to be included in ODP. This forum does not provide a way of speeding up the possible review of any suggested site. And it should be noted that the majority of ODP editors never ever look at this forum.

And for the record, someone has over the last year suggested your site to several different categories. Several of those suggestions have been declined as it was considered they were totally inappropriate or the site was already listed in the correct category.

It presumably is still waiting for review in Regional/North_America/United_States/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/Rentals/ since no one has made any editing action there yet.

I understand what you are saying. But what I mean is this: What is purpose of this furom? Just tell me to wait for 6 months? If you don't know when it will be ready, don't tell me it will be ready in 6 months. If you just don't want me to bugging you, just tell me it is rejected or I need to wait for at least 5 years. Then I won't come back to ask until then. Yes, you are right, your job is to telling me the status. I can create the same site to telling people waiting for 6 months and then 6 months. No one needs you to tell to wait for 6 months and 6 months. Your forum is different from other forum about the submission is because it is related to the DMOZ and know when it would be ready. Not just telling people to wait for 6 months. Then close the thread?! Just tell me you don't know if you don't know. And reply all requests that you don't know when it will be ready. This is NOT what you should do and not the purpose of this forum for sure. Hope you got what I saying.

OK, roomyou, you've just been named king of the ODP.....what would you do?

We can give status checks daily, assist the spammer in the process, and by the way, do absolutely no editing.
We can give status checks weekly, assist the spammers in the process, and do absolutely no editing.
We can go back to giving status checks monthly, and have so many submitters with calendared reminders that it is simply impossible for us to keep up -- which means that status checks get missed and all the lovely submitters start questioning the DNA of our mothers.

Or, we can give an initial status check after a month, and then once every six months, so we have time to edit.

While you are thinking over these possibilities also consider that maybe, just maybe, we should stop giving status checks at all, since that was NEVER the purpose of this forum. Giving out the status checks certainly don't help us.

So, what would you do?

And, while pondering all of that, ask yourself how much time/respect we should give you, since you already have one listing and are making a huge fuss about how long it takes to get a possible second listing?

Maybe that's the best place to leave the discussion. It is not serving your purpose (you say); it is certainly not serving the ODP purpose.
