Still no service for submissions?

I've been trying on and off for the past two weeks to submit a site and get either nothing (site not found) or Internal Server Error message. Doesn't vary with the time of day, ISP (broad band or 56k) - what's the story? Has the server not yet been fixed? Is the service "broken" - if so is it temporary or permanent? Love to know some timelines on this.

According to what they told us editors, they are installing new hardware. Thus, this is an issue that is being worked on, and hopefully soon will be fixed.

Thanks for the info - from reading the posts I thought that occurred some weeks/months ago, maybe a problem with getting the new servers?

The process of transfering the data is happening now, and I believe this is what is worsening the slowness problem.

If you think that's bad, remember we have to try and edit at these speeds...

No. they were _ordered_ then. My understanding is that staff now (as of a week or two ago) has the new livestock in their grubby little hands, and are busily training the gerbils to run in the new helical-shaped cages.

People who are used to hacking, say, a 10,000-entry database of vstore inventory numbers really don't understand the complexity of moving a major site like dmoz.org (where enormous engenuity has gone into getting the maximum amount of work out of three gerbils, two of them mere pups) onto new differently-distributed hardware without TOTALLY disrupting production. (The disruption has at times verged on totality...)

It's still necessary to reserve some of the gerbils for exclusive use by editors: until that is no longer true, non-editors aren't going to be able to do ANYTHING reliably.

I'm sure that when that point comes, there will be an announcement of it.

The servers do take submissions, I just processed lots of new ones.
And: No, we do not know when the current status will change.
