Submission Ambiguity

Hi All,

I was surprised to find that my site of ten years was not included in dmoz, except as a Google listing for an office in NYC that we lost on 9/11.

So, I submitted again. No problem, until I got to the locale for our real estate business. I chose The Capital District of Upstate New York (which is the title of our site). However, the guidelines--as I read them--require a county or town location unless we have offices in all the locations of the Capital District. Actually, we have no offices anymore, as our agents work from their homes in each of the areas of the Capital District. I personally handle eight counties.

I was hoping there was a box for comments on the application where I could explain that the Capital District is an accurate description of our local. What do you think I should do?

Thanks,

Dennis

Make sure your site is clear about what you just said. You could, in addition, include that in some short sentence as part of your suggested site description. It may very well be removed by the editor, but he/she would read it before doing that.

Thanks. A good idea but would it be wise to resubmit or just let our site do the talking. It's at http://RENY.net if you're interested.

It's currently listed within Manhattan.

If that's incorrect, click on the update listing at top right of the category and state what you think should be done [like this]. The local editors will check it out. Most give priority to update requests because they affect quality control.

Hi Jim,

Yes, that's the problem. We no longer have an office in Manhattan.

Thanks

Hi,

I followed the procedure for updating or correcting a site. Is that the path you are referring to?

Thanks

Yes, that is what jimnoble and spectregunner meant.

When the reviewing editor receives the update request they can review and if they feel necessary forward to the new category for consideration. If you have already done this, you have done all you can. An editor will review the update and make a final decision as to the appropriate actions.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Shadow. As you say, all I can do has been done. It is entirely our fault for not checking the listing for years. Mostly we have been doing everything we can to make the site more useful to our visitors. And we have always had good hits. It was only when I started noticing that the average page views was like 2.1 that I started wondering why so many people were hitting the site and then bailing. Now I see it was partially because they were looking for property in Manhattan.
