I submitted my website to you a few months ago. Looking at my sites visitor stats the other day, I noticed that an editor visited my site. To my disapointment, my site was not added. I was hoping that I might be able to get in contact with an editor & discuss how I can improve my site to get listed in the directory. Editors, please feel free to contact me, I am open to any criticism.

Thanks. We always like to get good sites suggested to ODP.

> Looking at my sites visitor stats the other day, I noticed that an editor visited my site.
You can't know from your stats if an editor visited your site. It could also be one of the tools we use.
And if an editor did visit your site you can't know why he did is.
It could be a review but it could also be one of several other reasons.

> To my disapointment, my site was not added.
As there is no reason to think the site was reviewed there is also no reason to think it was listed or rejected.

Sorry, you can't. We are not here to discuss indivual sites and how to make them listable. You can read which type of sites we will and which we won't list by reading the guidelines. Simply said: it is all about enough unique content.

Sorry, but you won't be contacted.

There's really nothing an editor can ever tell you. You ALREADY know what it is that makes your site unique -- you know whether the information is unique, you know where the information came from, you know whether it was an authoritative source. The editor is only trying to figure all that out.

So: YOU can look at your site, and ask yourself, "if this site dropped off the web forever, what of human knowledge would be lost?" Nobody can answer that question better than you.

Then ask yourself: does the site give a visiting surfer enough information to answer that question--easily?

If the answer is "not much" or "no", then you know the problem.

I understand what you guys are explaining but after viewing the category that I wished to submit my site to, it seemed to have a lot of spammy, unprofessional looking websites that contained very little knowledgable content. While there are a lot of honest good editors building DMOZ, I have to suspect that there some who haven't really got much idea atall. I must admit I am a bit disapointed for not being included in your directory but I certainly wont lose any sleep over it, after all, some of the top SEO's are stressing the fact that DMOZ has lost its value.

If you come across listings that you don't think are appropriate according to our site selection criteria then please do help us improve by letting us know about these problems.
  • For minor issues you can use the "Update URL" link on the category page to send details of the problem.
  • For broken links, hijacked pages, etc. there's a thread here at RZ in the Quality Control Forum you can use to report them.
  • If you have reason to suspect editorial abuse -- you should have some evidence to support your claim since poor editing, or just a lack of editing over several years is not abuse -- then please file a report at http://report-abuse.dmoz.org/
You'll notice that there are many more categories than editors, and many many more listings. Unless people tell us about problems they see, we're unlikely to spot them all ourselves. Who knows, when an editor looks at the listing you identify, they may take an interest in the category and review some of the sites there that have been suggested by the public.
