Hi,

I submitted my company's site a week ago, to go under the following category:

Computers: Software: Groupware: Microsoft Exchange: Exchange Hosting Services

When would this usually be accepted by? We are definitely only fit for that particular category as we are Exchange specialists much in the same way as all of the other company under that category.

Many thanks,

Darren Roberts

There are no set deadlines and no set priorities. And since there are no set assignments, nobody can even guess what editor will review the site.

I understand that, but I tried to add my previous employer's website to the same category a few months ago and that didn't work at all.

By "didn't work", do you mean when you it, your monitor exploded?

Or do you mean "the browser showed a screen saying 'thank you for your suggestion', but so far the assigned editor seems to be ignoring your deadline"?

I didn't have a deadline!

The submission went through fine, without any pieces of monitor flying anywhere.

It just never worked, which makes me think that it's been either unapproved or ignored.

I think the problem is that you were expecting more of a listing service than what we actually provide, which is the ability to suggest your site for an editor to review if and when someone gets around to it. If you didn't get errors, then your suggestion obviously went through, which is great. But it can take anywhere from hours to years for someone to actually come along to that category and review your suggestion. I expect there probably aren't too many editors in a great hurry to get stuck into that particular category so you may have a long wait ahead of you.

It's always what the editors are interested in doing right now. (Today I'm doing Universalist hymns and Mesopotamian curses. In my experience with Exchange Server, the latter have proven more useful. But I'm flexible: if you happen to have a good source of, say, Egyptian exorcisms, I could get it reviewed pretty quickly.)

Are you interested in North African Christian exorcisms then? Or Pagan?
I'm pretty sure my father-in-law has read into this subject.

Ah, that was yesterday. Today it's history: Queen very sedate Victoria and Queen very sanguinary Mary.

... and tomorrow who knows what -- not even H until he starts on whatever it turns out to be - which is why he can't vouch for me or any other editor, and why none of us can vouch for him.

I think that's the proper mental reaction. The point is, there are aspects of the system too complex (or too chaotic) to "understand" in any useful sense.

So now we're back on the beaten path again, how do I find out if/when my entry has been looked at/considered?

You really don't. You can see, by looking at the category, if the site has been listed but otherwise, you really don't have a way to find out what the status of the suggestion is.

Just to clarify a few things from sounddude's post. It's not so much a backlog of suggested sites, it's treated more like a pool that editors can dip into to find possible new listings.

Every category in the directory has an editor, but not all categories have an editor listed. There are 200+ editors who can edit anywhere in the directory.
