Your suggestion from 12/Jul/2004 is still pending review in that category.

Thank you.

Curoius...Does a site ever get listed in a category with no editor? I just noticed that this category has a volenteer link at the bottom. This may explain why my site has not been listed in this category since my first submission about 2 years ago.

Categories that do not have a named editor has no bearing at all on when a site might be reviewed. Each editor in the parent categories have editing rights there as well as many, many editors who have editing rights in the entire directory.

Ah-ha, I see.

Please excuse all the questions but I am still learning.

If my submission has been received and is awaiting review, what is the purpose of resubmitting? I see so many people on this forum who have resubmitted thier site every month or two. What does this accomplish?

It accomplishes the possibility of having their site removed, since it clearly goes against the submission guidelines, and a lot of extra work for the volunteers if they are submitting to different categories. If they are submitting to the same exact category, most times it just overwrites the previous submission, and accomplishes nothing. A site should never be resubmitted unless told to do so by an editor in this forum.

Thank you! Since you liked it so well maybe you could give me some of those reputation points. :star2:

I thought it was a bit spammish to resubmit. Can a site be banned altogether for that?

Not really sure, I will let a Senior Editor answer this one for you. I do not get very many submissions in the area of the directory where I edit. :embar:

I'm not senior, but I studied Hutcheson 101 and I think I can safely reply.

Yet, we can and do ban sites/submitters for spamming.

However, and this is the important part, we can clearly recognize the difference between a few ill-informed resubmissions, and the efforts of a directory abuser.

And if you are handing out reputation points, you need to hand out enough for the entire class...... :D :D :D

It has been over 6 months since my last request for a Submission status as per the forum rules. Can someone please provide more information about the status of my submission. It has been over 3 years now since my initial submission to DMOZ and still no listing. Is this a lost cause?

Your initial submission is a lost cause, because in all likelihood it was overwritten by your July 2004 submission. Insofar as this forum is concerned the only submission that matters is the most recent.

It has not been touched by an editor since that time.

Check back again in six months and hopefully we will have better news for you.

How many other websites are awaiting review in this category? It seems outlandish to purport a high quality direcory when many websites are outdated or completely revised before they are even listed.

I have to say that if a search engine were run in the same fashion as the DMOZ, it would die rather quickly. With all due respect, I am beginning to believe the DMOZ is mostly hype and exaggeration. If long wait times for listings are commonplace, how can they expect to survive?

It is, as it is for all resources, of value for what it has, not for what it doesn't have.

I'm trying to get a poet represented today. Although by all accounts the greatest poet of his century and his country, he's waited 1500 years to have his own category. And ... it is worth linking anyway.

I don't mind taking the long view.
