Can you tell me the status of http://www.newyorkpartyshuttle.com

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I submitted it in Regional: North America: United States: New York: Localities: N: New York City: Travel and Tourism: Travel Services: Tour Operators (8)

Thanks.

Different businesses, different sites

Jim-

Thanks for your assistance. I'm confused by your answer and have a couple of questions.

1) Are you saying that www.atlanticcitypartyshuttle.com will not be listed because it is an attempt to get dual listings? If so, nothing could be further from the truth. I have two separate businesses with different vehicles and different web pages. Atlantic City Party Shuttle takes passengers back and forth from New York City to the Tropicana and Borgata hotels in Atlantic City. The company's customers are people who live in and around NYC who want to go to a casino. New York Party Shuttle, although it has a similar name, is an entirely different business. NYPS's primary business is doing daily tours of New York City (with a tour guide). That business (obviously) is targeted at an entirely different group of people--those who live elsewhere in the world and are coming to visit New York City. NYPS also does private charters for bachelor parties, pub crawls, dinner outings, Yankee games, etc. There are cross links between the two sites, because it seemed prudent to me to try to cross sell the two businesses, but they are stand alone websites with different look and feel and content. Can you give me some advice on how to solve this problem?

2) I am not certain of exactly which category I submitted NYPS to. Since I'm not able to send you guys a "clickable link" to the right category, should I just re-submit it, or is there another option?

Thanks again for your help.

The 'two businesses' in common ownership, with the same phone number and both involved in transportation in and around New York, are too similar to be cosidered independent. With the cross links, even you think they're related. If one had been transport and the other dry cleaning, you might have had a point.

The most recent submission of http://www.newyorkpartyshuttle.com was to Manhatten/Travel Guides on 18th December. The ATTENTION - Forum Guidelines - READ BEFORE POSTING thread requires that you wait at least a month from your most recent submission before asking here. In your case, that isn't until after 18th January.

Jim-
Okay. My partner must have submitted NYPS on December 18, because I did not know that had happened.

As far as the businesses being similar, I respectfully disagree. I think DMOZ's policy is a valuable one, but it needs to be flexible if the directory is going to be useful. It should be used to prevent people from clogging the directory with multiple listings for the same product or service, but not to prevent users from finding valuable products and services because the rule is applied too strictly.

The best example of the above is that you guys are forcing us to choose between listing one of our two businesses in a category that is appropriate for guided tours of New York or in a category appropriate for transportation to Atlantic City. If I pick tours, then someone searching the directory for transportation to Atlantic City will never find us, and vice versa. Seems to me that this just defeats the purpose of a directory, but maybe I'm missing something.

I'm certainly not an expert on these issues, and I'm sure you hear complaints about this issue alot, but I thought I'd offer you guys some feedback. I guess I'll wait until January and see if New York Party Shuttle gets listed. I appreciate your help with the process.

Jim-

Following your advice, I waited until after January 18 to check our status. Do I check it through you, or by creating a new thread?
