Hello Karen :),

The forum guidelines note that status updates are given every 6 months. Since you had your last update on February 26th you are welcome to bump this thread on or after August 26th to ask again.

How far up the waiting to be reviewed list am I?

It is better to think of it as a pool or pile rather than a list. Editors do not have to review sites in any particular order.

Thanks :D

There is no list, it's just a heap.

There is no position on the heap -- think of it as reshuffled every hour.

And -- all the sites on the web on the same subject are subject to review equally with yours -- whether they've ever been submitted or not.

Many thanks for your replies, I thought once I had started a string I could enquire every month. I won't bother you kind folk's again until August 26th I'll make a note on my diary.

If things are not reviewed in chronological order, I guess I could receive the same reply as before from djdeeds "The submission has been received and is awaiting review" which sadly doesn't tell me a great deal about my chance of being accepted or reviewed. I'll just have to cross my fingers that it gets looked at soon, otherwise my investment in the site will be wasted for the next few months as I know many search engines pick sites up from DMOZ's excellent listings.

Please can you tell me what the numbers in brackets at the top refer to e.g. in this line
"Shopping: Weddings: Invitations and Announcements (64)" is that the number waiting for review or the number listed in the catagory?

Many thanks for any help
Kind Regards
Karen

We don't actually have any interest in search engines, although they are welcome to use our data free of charge. We're just a bunch of volunteer directory building enthusiasts.

If the success of your business hinges upon an ODP listing, you have a problem. I suggest that you pursue other promotional methods too.

The number in brackets is the number of listings in a category and its subcategories.

:teeth: I'm not reliant on DMOZ, I'm using google pay per click at the moment with quiet good results! But would obviously like my search engine rankings to improve for the free listings!

I have often read that search engines use companies listed on DMOZ.

This website (one of many) http://cobaltsystems.com/advice/search_stats.html says

Free Submission Tips:Start by submitting your site using the free Google site submission. Although this really doesn't do much for your site unless you get into a couple of other sites. Listing with Yahoo will increase your page rank and get you access into the Google database of free listings. You should also try to submit your site to DMOZ.org which will get you into the Google web site directory and improve traffic.

It also says
dmoz is the most important engine to submit your site to. Because it's an open source search directory, companies are free to use dmoz search listings mixed with their own search results. Sites that use dmoz results include AOL Net Find, Netscape.com, Google.com, HotBot.com, Lycos and AskJeezes.com and many more are adding dmoz to their search results each year.

I'm just a novice at all this so tend to believe what I read! Maybe I shouldn't!
