Submission to multiple categories?

Hello and thanks for setting up this forum. It seems like a great place.

I have a site which has been listed on DMOZ for several months now. There were two categories in which I thought the site might fit, and I eventually settled on the one I felt most appropriate. I recently noticed that a similar site is listed in two categories. If this is an accepted practice, I would like to submit my site to the second category. I wanted to check here first as I thought I read somewhere this was against DMOZ policy.

Generally speaking, a business site is entitled for consideration in two categories: once in topical (by subject) and one in Regional (by physical location).

There are a number of exceptions, however, so it would be helpful if youu told us about the URL we are discussing and the categories you are considering. Otherwise we need to remain quite vague.

Thank you for the reply. The site in question is www.whistlestopper.com. It's a political forum. Though there are some ads, it is not set up for profit. Currently it's listed in Society: Politics: Chats and Forums. That seems the most appropriate category. There's also Regional: North America: United States: Society and Culture: Politics: Chats and Forums. There are probably a couple of others as well, but those seem the two best matches.

The site in question is only eligible for submission in ONE category. There is no brick and mortar location for the site so it is not eligible for a Regional listing. If an editor feels an article or a forum thread of yours has enough content for another listing somewhere else in the directory they will handle that. Please do not submit those types of deeplinks on your own. Thanks.

No, if there is a link from one category to another, then it is basically never OK to list a site in both. The submittal policies are YOUR best guide: the editors' guidelines (not OUR mistakes, embalmed and enshrined as eternally unimpeachable precedents) are OUR guide.
