I know you guys are busy, but I was just wanting to know does take over 2 years to get a site listed? I guess the answer would be depending on whether the cat has a editor or not.

I submitted a site about 2 years ago and it never got listed. I posted here and they kept telling me that it was in line to be reviewed, and that's what was said everytime I came to this board to inquire.

I had set myself a reminder to inquire every 6 months.

Finally, my thread of inquiry was deleted and my site was never submitted. It would appear that you guys got upset at me for inquiring about my site's status twice a year and decided to delete my thread and never list my site.

How does one go about getting a site listed?

Bless you, my son, bless you. Oh, that only others would seek and follow your wisdom -- we would all be better off.

Finally, my thread of inquiry was deleted and my site was never submitted.

No, we changed forum software. We didn't delete your thread.

It would appear that you guys got upset at me for inquiring about my site's status twice a year and decided to delete my thread and never list my site.

Hardly. The people who try to inquire weekly, argue, compare us to hitler and question our mother's virtue --we get upset at -- and still don't refuse to list their sites.

We'd like to think that we are better than that.

Now, having said that, why not wander over to the Submission Stats thread and make an inquiry. (Don't forget the clickable link to the category.)

And yes, sites can sit for more than two years, and there is no malice involved. Some categories are so spammy that editors would rather have their toenails plucked than do edits there -- and since this is an all volunteer organization, no one can (or wants to) make an editor editor where the editor chooses not to.

If you think of it this way, it is pretty sad: any given category has a minium of 200 editors who are allowed to edit there -- yet some categories are so abused by submitters that even editors with 40,000 edits under their belt will only go there reluctantly.

The forum has moved to new software, The forum URLs are in a different format to what they were before 2004 March.

Find the thread number in your old bookmarked link, and drop it into the new format URL. Does that find it?

Yes, it can take years, or it can take minutes. Editors edit in random places at random times. No-one know when any particular site suggested to any particular category is actually going to be reviewed.

See the couple of very recent, very long threads, in this forum that are already discussing this same topic.

Actually ScripMan's previous posts in the old forum database may have been victims of the Vanishing Posts Syndrome that was happening just before we moved to the new software. ScripMan shows zero posts in the old forum and even if we had deleted the post there would have been a copy of them in the Deleted folder.

what if there is no editor for a specific category?

Can, and do, other editors cover categories without an editor?

The category I submitted to http://www.dmoz.com/Business/Telecommunications/Call_Centers/Inbound/ had an editor when I submitted but seems to be open now. Some of the related categories seem close enough for the same editor to have a look at a category without an editor.

I know this would seem like extra burden but would give us a little hope :)

I applied to edit the category myself in true faith but my application was rejected.

All said and done, a big thanks to the editors for their hard work and diligence in making dmoz what it is today. I still look forward to becoming an editor at some point.

Any response to help my original query would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Odeniyi.

Yes, definitely other editors can cover categories without an editor. Not all editors, but many. That's all editors named in categories located higher up the category tree, plus all "editall" and "meta" editors.
