Submit Error in Regional/BeverlyHills/..Dentistry

Well, I seem to have <ahem> goofed up a submission a bit.

We completed and launched a new website for a client. On October 1, I found the correct ODP category where similar sites were listed, and submitted.

On checking the category the next day to see if it had been added (I know, I know), I discovered that the client already had a listing (oops). On second look, it was for a site he'd had earlier -- one of these online we'll-build/host/promote-it-for-you services which the client had cancelled after hiring us. On clicking that link, it appears that it redirected to another similar site (which also has a link at ODP).

Oy. No matter. My problem is that I submitted to a category where the client already had a listing under his name. So I clicked used "Update URL" link to explain the situation ... and, now, that makes two submissions, sort of.

We are not trying to get two listings, and I apologize for the error. Have I totally blown it here, or what should I do?

The editor should be able to work out that it is a new URL for the site, but just in case you might like to drop an email to the category (or one above) editor with a pointer to this thread; unless anyone else pops in here in the next 24 hours with any better advice.

You are right to be slightly concerned about what you did, because one spam technique is to submit multiple URLs for the same business hoping to get many (rather than just the one) listed.

If you drop a note in here, stating the URL of the new site, then I (or someone who beats me to it) will add a note there to flag to the editor to look at other listings in that cat for duplicates.

General Note: Updating a URL is quite easy to do if the OLD site contains a pointer to the new site or a notice saying that the site has moved (and where to). This is so that the editor can easily verify that the owner of the new site is actually also the owner of the old site. Otherwise, the scenario might be that the owner of the 'new' site has just built a temporary mirror site to make it 'look' the same, and is trying to hijack a rival site's old ODP listing as their own.

LOL! I'm not much of a hijacker type. But I had a feeling I should say something, instead of assuming that the editor would figure out that I had made the original submission prior to discovering that he already had a listing and submitting the correct via Update URL. The data is this:

I am guessing that the OLD site no longer exists. He did/does not actually own the OLD site; it was created and hosted by a company which also owns the domain name -- and as far as I know, he cancelled the service, so he cannot update it to show that he has moved to a new domain name.

Thus, his name appears in the ODP listings, but the company that owns the old domain name apparently redirected it to another site:

redirects to http://www.beverlyhillscosmeticdentist.com/ for a Dr. Kevin Sands, who also has an ODP listing.

At least, this is the way it appears to me.

I was hoping that my original submission could be deleted and just the Update URL one be left. Oh well. You guys sure have to deal with some tricky stuff. This is dizzying!
