I am Eric Burton from USA who just submits my own websites about Logo Design and Website Design services in the directory which is "Graphic Design". I know the the ODP is a very fair and peaceful group which is combined by volunteers. Hope our distinguished editors could help me list my website.

There must be hundreds of millions of websites that we haven't yet evaluated, the huge majority never suggested to us, and there's no reason to believe that yours deserve priority.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

A few years?

I am just curios? Who backs up DMOZ with money? Who would give you any money to run DMOZ in this insane way?

What good is an answer after a few years? In a few years the website could be dead or the webmaster itself could be dead.

You might want to read into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Directory_Project - that should answer the first questions.

Please don't forget that the ODP is a volunteer driven project, the amount of work done relies on the volunteers spare time. Even though it's not the perfect solution, history has proven it was better than the alternatives.

There are many ppl that knock on your doors, including myself a few years back, when I had more time. Perhaps you just need to be more open.

I seee 2 issues with this:

1. the web is a very dynamic place; you need to adapt to the web, the web is not going to adapt to you;

2. you open the gate for abuse with the "years queue" policy; what if an editor gets paid to include only certain sites and exclude the competition? If he is confronted about it he would simply say (5 years later) - I had no time to check that site.

This situation, in straight talking is corruption. How do you fight this back?

We can not tell how we fight potential abuse as this would inform potential abusers how not to be detected.
You will have to trust us that we battle abuse. Due to the way DMOZ and the editing community is organised it is very difficult to abuse the system without being noticed. Any abuse found will always be punished and corrected.

To add to what pvgool said above, we have a zero tolerance policy on abusive behaviour, and have some guidelines on the subject.
The waiting times are totally variable; in both directions - sometimes a site will be listed before it's even suggested, usually by an editor interested in a subject or building an area of the directory.
