submitted incorrect URL

I hope someone can help me with this.

I used a sitebuilder create my site, & purchased my own domain name.

I submitted my site here under .com when I have just been informed that I should have submitted the full address as .com/index.html. apparently not doing this creates an issue with search engines viewing it as a redirect

Since the site is not listed yet, can I go ahead and re-submit with the correct URL or will be considered submitting twice.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi dolce

If your site is accessible by visiting www.youdomain.com then that is the one that will be listed even if you submitted www.yourdomain.com/index.html

Editors tend to remove the index.html part to see if the site works and if it does then that is the one that would be listed. We will only leave the pagename.html if the site will not display without it. Adding a pagename.html onto listing within ODP un-necessarily would cause a major headache to us and our users everytime a site performed a redesign etc. so we prefer not to do it.

Thanks for your quick response.

Actually no, it is the reverse. I submitted my site as www.mydomain.com, & I have had at least one other directory tell me my url is considered redirected.

In verifying with my sitebuilder, they have told me my site has to be listed as www.mydomain.com/index.html to get around this issue.

My concern is that I have also submitted my site to ODP as www.mydomain.com I would like to change it to www.mydomain.com/index.html so as not to be considered as having a redirected url.

I guess I should just go ahead and re-submit the site with the extension.

I have been reading the forum, & it doesn't seem like one change will be considered 'spamming'.

Thanks for your help

What some other idiot tells you is their problem, not ours.

We will list the bare domain name, for a variety of very good reasons which we need not go into here.

Asking for a change of a working URL to some OTHER URL (working or not) IS spam. Because figure that it is not just you that's getting the loony advice from someone else--it's several hundred other victims a month.

Now, you can let yourself be victimized, and we have nothing to say.

But when all you victims get together to hassle US with requests we've told you up front we DON'T WANT -- do you see how that wouldn't be appreciated? THEN it becomes spam.

Guess again. And please, this time, guess NOT to re-submit.

Umm, not sure why you are so hostile.

Yes, they may be idiots.... however this idiot ( I will gladly tell you I am not a techie theres no shame in that) was trying to get an answer to a what I think is a legit question.

My site is not listed at ODP I have only submitted it in the last 2 months or so. I was trying to avoid 'spamming' - that is why I came to this forum.

I did read below that if you have incorrectly entered your URL that it was unlikely that it would be considered spam to 'correct it' as mistakes are made all the time.

Thanks for your time anyway

Why so obstinate not to take the advice you were given?

Go back and read the post that tells you WHICH URL is correct!

And don't try to change it to an INCORRECT one.

And remember, we do not accept your friend's definition of "correct."

We do we seem hostile

1. You ask for advice
2. You get the advice
3. You tell us your friend knows better and we are wrong

First off I think it is clear that my message was directed to a specific person, re the hostile.

Secondly, I have re-read Leer's EDITED message - by response to Leer was based on the original post. Thanks to Leer for the advice.

Thirdly, I never mentioned a 'friend' if you read the message I clearly said I used a sitebuilder - nowhere did I mention a 'friend'.

:D
