Hi all

I submitted my website 10 months ago.

Any suggestions as to getting included? Would it be worth my while to resubmit to a different category?

Many thanks

You've already done all you need to do. Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

How do we know?

Hi Jim,

How do we know whether a suggestion is awaiting evaluation or has been rejected?

Thanks Jim, you are a legend.

I will leave it be and hope for the best.

You don't.
But you can find out if a website is or will be rejected by looking aat the DMOZ guidelines, they clearly explain which sites we will not list.

As has been explained many times there are only a few options after a website is suggested.
1) It is waiting review - there is nothing you can do and there is no need to suggest the website again
2) It is listed - there is nothing you can do and there is no need to suggest the website
again
3) It is rejected - there is nothing you can do and there is no need to suggest the website again
4) The website is moved to a category that fits better and is waiting review - there is nothing you can do and there is no need to suggest the website again

So in all cases: there is nothing you can do and there is no need to suggest the website again

If you want to know if your website is listable or not the only thing you need to do is read the DMOZ guidelines.

So. Now tell me why you would like to know the "status" and what you would do when you know. We (the DMOZ editors) still do not understand why people keep asking this same question. Please help us understand.

I believe for some it is like waiting to hear the result of a school exam. The teacher keeps telling them there is nothing they can do and there is no need to sit for the exam again. There is no set date for the result to be released and if you have failed you will not know as you think you are still waiting. The fact that over the years so many have repeatedly asked to know indicates the torment is real. Just be mentally strong and accept that this wait is indefinite and incorporate that anxiety of not knowing into part of our everyday life.

There should be some sort of box where you can see your status...

LOL. I like this idea.

Oh, the torment! Or, you could check every couple days to see if the 'result' has arrived and eventually you'll get bored of waiting and not worry about it anymore. When it does come you'll not be interested anymore, haha.

Not a terrible analogy I suppose. But remember that you didn't pay to sit the exam, were told what would happen with the results when you signed up, and even had the answers to every possible question that could up to read before you sat the exam.

Not to mention you'd never taken any courses, or even audited any courses, or even registered for any courses, or even presented any evidence that you met the entrance requirements, at the school, or paid any fees of any kind whatsoever -- and the only reason the teacher even gave the exam was to find cool-looking papers to decorate the walls.

The teachers are all out in the halls, stapling exam papers up everywhere. And if you ask Mr. Smith where Mrs. Jones got the cool papers she's posting, all he can say is, "I dunno, but she does find a lot of cool papers, doesn't she? Now this batch I'm working with, it came from the art school across town. Someone should probably check out some of the other art schools across the state."

And if you ask where your exam is, all anyone can say is, "If you turned it in on Friday, it's probably in room 214."

And none of that matters. All that matters is, lots of cool stuff gets stapled to the walls.
