Greetings,

I have read over some of the past posts and am still not sure how many listings I can submit.

My url http://corsetsandcostumes.com.

I sell Corsets (all sizes up to 8X)
I sell historical, theatrical and renaissance festival costumes (same)
I sell Swimsuits (4X to 8X exclusively)
Halloween/Mardi Gras costumes (4X to 8X).

I submitted one url for the corsets at: Shopping: Clothing: Undergarments: Girdles and Corsets

I would like to submit My Halloween and Mardi Gras line to:
Shopping: Clothing: Costumes: Holiday: Halloween

My historical and renaissance festival costumes to:
Shopping: Clothing: Costumes: Historical

My swimsuits to:
Shopping: Clothing: Plus-Size: Women's: Swimwear
(which by the way has not updated since June of 2003)

They are all under the category of shopping and the sub category of clothing. If I do this, will I be accused of spamming?

My site is set up with a static url that links to 2 seperate shopping carts operated by me. If can submit more than one listing, then should I submit the same url for all of them (my index page) or should I submit them to a specific shopping cart entry way.. (like for the swimsuits).

Any help or guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Please do NOT submit your site to each category.

The submission guidelines say quite clearly to submit to ONE category which best fits the range of products which you sell.

If there is no one dominant line of business (and I am imagining from what you have said that there isn't) then you MIGHT be a candidate for Shopping/Clothing/ but you will not be able to submit there because of the high degree of spam which that category attracted in its submissions.

Howver, I see that submissions have been made to
Shopping/Clothing/Plus-Size/Women's
Shopping/Clothing/Costumes/Holiday/Halloween
Shopping/Clothing/Plus-Size/Women's/Specialty
in the past (and maybe other places).

Please do not submit to any category again - you have one submission which is now awaiting review in Shopping/Clothing with a reference to this thread.

If you wish to get a status update please wait at leats one month and then post in thge Submission Status Forum.

Thanks.

I had no idea

I just assumed that all the old submits I had done were dumped, disregarded or deleted somehow.

I have waited almost 2 years for my site to show up and I could never find it listed in the category I submitted it to.

It is possible that over this time I might have submitted to different categories in the hopes that it might get processed sometime, and to be honest I can only remember doing it twice. But there were significant amounts of time that passed between submits as far as I can remember (With the exception of what I submitted just today.)

Anyway, since it never showed up, I thought perhaps that it was my fault somehow and tried it again. (I got the distinct impression that a submission can be deleted at the discretion of the editor reviewing it, if it did not somehow conform to whatever conditions that editor was using to make the determination at the time it was reviewed.)

*You say:
Howver, I see that submissions have been made to
Shopping/Clothing/Plus-Size/Women's
Shopping/Clothing/Costumes/Holiday/Halloween
Shopping/Clothing/Plus-Size/Women's/Specialty
in the past (and maybe other places).*

I believe the Shopping/Clothing/Plus-Size/Women's/Specialty is the one that I submitted almost 1 1/2 to 2 years ago.. and as far as I can tell the category does not even exist anymore?..(I could not find it)
I have no recollection of when I might have submitted to the Shop../Cloth../Plus-Size/Women's category?? but if it is there, then I must have done it.
And I just today submitted to the Shopping/Clothing/Costumes/Holiday/Halloween.

My apologies for all of the above then I guess.

Just to make sure, you are telling me that I can only have one submission to one category?
(Have read other editors indicate that it is possible to submit more, if they are different and distinct products)

And you say that I have a submission waiting in the Shopping/Clothing with a reference to this thread?????

Does that mean that if I ever do get listed it will be under Shopping/Clothing and that is as far down in the category it will be? I am just asking, since I am not sure where I should go to look for it after a month passes.
Believe me, I am not trying to be a PIA or difficult. I genuinely am trying to do this correctly.

thank you

Thank you for trying - I know it can be quite confusing sometimes.

Usually what we try to do is to find the one category which encompasses the activities of a site completely. In your case, no one subcategory fits - you can't go into Women's, because you do men's stuff too, etc.

I'm not saying that it will get listed there, either - I am not expert enough in that field to feeling comfortable listing sites that high in the tree, and so I am merely putting it there for a more experienced editor to look at and work out where it best belongs.

The best thing you can do is to come back here after at least a month and see whether an editor has looked at it and done anything with it.

Hope this clarifies,

Thanks.

Oops My bad..

I got confused when recalling my submissions...
The submission I did today was for the corsets...
The Halloween one was sometime in the recent past (just not sure when, could be a month ago or so?)

I need to keep better notes I guess. (Or at least any notes.. LOL)

Anyway, sorry bout that.

In response to your creation of a new thread -- your site is NOW waiting for review in [cat]Shopping/Clothing/Costumes[/cat]. I don't know where else it may be waiting for review.

Please keep all your queries in this thread.

You may ask again after April 27.

At least now I know it is in a que someplace

Thank you for taking the time to reply. When I check for my submission I will look for it in Shopping/Clothing/Costumes.
I posted this query in a new thread as I felt the old thread was no longer germain to my circumstances. I will check regarding this issue in another 6 months.

I have to admit, I am incredulous that it has taken over 3 years to get to this point in my request. If my experience is a common one, it is no wonder you have such angry and frustrated postings. The goals and desires of the DMOZ organization are admirable, and I am certain that everyone wishes it were accomplished in a more timely and effective manner.

I am not going to yell at you. I'm so happy SOMEONE is following instructions, I'm going to load even that unreviewed queue and check.

Yes, it's still waiting there.

And a free hint from the editors: Spyware is not appreciated. Ain't nothing it can do for you to make up for the loss of confidence surfers will feel -- editors most of all. As part of our activity, we naturally visit a lot of untrusted websites, and we have to religiously exercise the kind of care all surfers SHOULD take.

Depending on the species of spyware involved, editors may reject the site; reject the site with warnings to all other editors; refuse to review it; or list it with a "caveat surfer" warning to all surfers.

Just lose it, OK?

Note: I haven't visited the site, and the offending intrusion may have already been removed in a fit of sanity. If so, consider the preceding a public service announcement.

Having taken a quick look at the site and the source for the homepage, I don't see anything vile. My first guess was cometcursor -- that was popular several years ago. Looks like the fit of sanity has already occurred, for which a belated thanks. I shall update the note.

Never ever ever condoned any spyware!

Thankyou,
But now I am really confused. I have never installed, instituted, nor supported any type of spyware on my site. EVER! (I don't even have the slightest idea on how I would do that)... I'm not a programmer, and I used frontpage as my html program and never told it to do any kind of spying on anyone! As far as I know, the only thing my shopping cart program does, is it does have some kind of cookie that goes out, but that is only for 1 hour, to help if someone gets bumped offline accidently (and that is not my doing, it is endemic in the shopping cart). It expires 1 hour after that as far as I have ever heard.
I get the impression that my site has been waiting for inclusion 3 years because of this? And this is the first time I have ever heard of it. If that was the issue in the past, then it was not of my doing, and it is very disheartening to find out about this just now.

Thank you for at least giving me a clue as to why it has been this long.
I have a very unique costume store that caters to the very large, (up to 8X) so I knew it couldn't be because I was too much like the others. I even tried to re-design my site to be simple to use, read and understand, thinking that perhaps that would be an issue.

Any idea what time frame we are talking about now? (It has been a long long time of waiting) Or do I have to wait another 6 months before asking?

Thank you for your time.

I'm not sure what elicited the comment. Editors occasionally make mistakes, webmasters frequently forget. (As for FontPlague, there is no web design mistake known to man that FontPlague won't dance the paperclip tarantella to help you make, but that's an aside--to be ignored if confusing. Anyway, the current site design is IMO modest and functional, which is IMO a good thing.)

I see no evidence that was an issue. Multiple submittals was obviously much bigger an issue. (The spyware remark was only in passing, as one submittal was shuffled toward the direct category -- not an opportunity for a review for a listing anyway.)

As for time scale, we weren't talking about any such thing, and won't ever be talking about it either. That's simply an "I don't know". I can tell you that Shopping/Clothing is not a popular place to edit (for reasons I don't know); that we don't care about submittal dates (for many good reasons) but that yours is not the oldest submittal there.
