Submitting celebrity directory

Over the past few months I have submitted some urls from http://www.lumastar.com to specific celebrity categories on ODP. I still have many more to submit, and wondered if there was any easier or faster way to get all of these urls submitted. I would be glad to add links to ODP on my site, or whatever else you guys would like. Please let me know what to do.

I'd suggest reading the editing guidelines first. According to them, the site isn't listable. It is far too early in the process of content creation to consider deeplinks.

As for linking to the ODP, that's allowed, I suppose. We just don't worry much about it. I mean, our users by definition already know where the ODP is, so that kind of link isn't really useful for them. And it's kind of pointless for us to worry about usefulness for people who aren't ODP users, you know? We'd treat it just like an Amazon link -- if we can ignore it and go on to the unique content, we will.

I'm not sure I understand, this isn't really deeplinking, each page is kind of a specific celebrity site in itself, hence why I would like to list them all, like you do with starpulse and askmen and etc... I guess I will just have to submit each link individually and proceed from there.

If I were you I'd wait until I did understand what hutcheson is saying before wasting everyone's time, yours and the editors who may happen across your submissions. Having looked at the site, my guess is that even the main URL will not get listed, let alone every sub-page.

But hey, the choice is yours, though I think asking for clarity might be the thing to do before submitting more links from this site.

Not a problem, I wasn't going to submit until I received more information anyways. But can you tell me why my site wouldn't be listable, I really do not understand.

Well, let's see:

-- First we have that really annoying popup ad that comes up at the beginning and takes over the browser and resizes to fill the screen (that reeeeeaaaally annoyed me). Then, of course, there are all the other pop ups all over the place.

-- Then there are all those affiliate links all over the place as well. Lots and lots.....and lots of affiliate links (which we don't like, by the way).

-- Then, after picking one of the featured links off your main page, the biography information came from another site (i.e. not unique information), and the media link took me god-knows-where -- when I finally got all the extra windows closed, I no longer even had your site open in a window (obviously mistook whatever URL it forwarded to as a popup which doesn't say much for the link).

[edited to add: ah, the media link takes us to clickheretofind.com via an affiliate link -- the resulting page has nothing to do with the celebrity in question...or any celebrity for that matter. It's really funny, though, that one of the 3 or 4 popups that clickheretofind link spawns was for a popup killer. <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />]

So, we have a site very light on the possibly unique content (I don't know where your photos come from; maybe they are unique and maybe they aren't) and very heavy on the affiliate links, popups, and borrowed material. Not listable by ODP standards. Please don't submit any of the pages.

Ah - that explains why I wasn't able to look at the site. All I got was a blank page. Obviously my ad blocker software (ZoneAlarm which is used by quite a large number of people) blocked the auto-resizing popup window - mistaking it for an advert. I would expect other ad-blocker software to do likewise...

Of course, discussions about web design aren't really welcome here - but I thought I'd point out that the above reason is why some editors may just reject your site for being a "blank page" (as that's all we can see).
