submitting to two categories

Hello,

I submitted my site, http://devbistro.com , to http://dmoz.org/Business/Information_Technology/Employment/Job_Search/ back in February 2004 but it has not been reviewed. My question now is: if I submit it to another appropriate category http://dmoz.org/Business/Information_Technology/Employment/Regional/North_America/United_States , will it overwrite my previous submission to http://dmoz.org/Business/Information_Technology/Employment/Job_Search/ or can both of them coexist?

Thank you very much,
James

It won't "overwrite" your previous submission, but there's no guarantee it will get your site listed faster, either.

Kiria,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that it won't guarantee faster inclusion in the directory--I just wanted to make sure that the latest submission does not cancel out any previous ones. So, thanks a lot for clarifying this.

Best,

Hi,

I've just come accross this thread while searching for answers on a different matter. But reading this has me confused. I thought it was against the rules to submit a site in more than one category? Did I misunderstand that?

Please advise

Well, it does say "choose the one best category." But it also says you may resubmit once after several weeks. And it doesn't say (and there is no good reason to say) that you cannot reconsider what the one best category is, before that second submittal.

If the second category is chosen because it arguably is the right category, then you haven't harmed us, and may have helped us. If the second category was chosen because you hoped it would get a quicker review even though you knew it wasn't the best category, then you're a (very small-time) spammer. We can't always distinguish between those two possibilities, and if possible will give the submitter the benefit of the doubt. The worst a listable site is likely to get is a passing sneer as we delete one of the submittals vigorously.

Thanks hutcheson,

the reason for my question was that I have a site submitted under the most suitable category as far as the product is concerned, but it would be equally relative to the category of the town where the product comes from. I was afraid that if I submitted it there as well, it may be thrown out of the first category.
It can't be spaming to submit a site to two totally different categories of equal relevance, can it?

Listing and submission in Regional categories is indepedent of listing and submission to topical categories.

In other words, if your web site is for a business, it can be listed separately in Business and in Regional.

However, "the town the product comes from" is unlikely to be a valid reason for listing it in that town.

I am the original poster of this thread and I did go ahead and submitted the site to the second [valid] category for it (which happens to be regional). I really hope it did not harm my overall submission status. This job search site that i would like to get listed is not limited to any specific georaphical location. However, it just happens that 95% of the current job postings are for US-based positions.

Thanks arubin,

that helps, in this particular case I believe it is a valid reason, since the site is also tourist-related regarding the town we are in. It fits perfectly with the rest of the businesses that are listed in that category.

Thank you all for your help.
