How can I tell if our site submitted correctly?

No sooner than 30 days after the submission you come back to this thread, provide the URL name and a clickable link to the category where you submitted.

That will get you a status check, and then you are entitled to follow-up checks once every six months.

We had to submit to a category that didn't quite fit our listing. We wanted to be in "/Shopping/General_Merchandise/" because of the large variety of products we offer but the only directory I could submit our site to that even came close was "/Shopping/General_Merchandise/Novelties/".

Will this cause any delays or problems with our listing into the directory?

No, it should not cause a delay. within a given directory tree, editors quite often move sites around with little or no adverse impact on the submission.

Now, if you have submitted to Shopping and the site belongs in Society, it is likely there wold be a delay because the odds are against having the editor in question having rights in both cats.

Still, your mileage may vary.
