Suggest school websites

Hi All,

First time here, just have a question about suggesting some school websites.

I've submitted around 40 school websites to G, P, U, V categories under "Regional: Oceania: Australia: New South Wales: Localities: ". That was a few days ago.

What I found now is that the first two submitted to G category are listed in open directory now. But all others are not there and no feedback received.

So, just wondering if there is a way I can find out whether the request is just waiting in the queue, or it had been rejected?

Thanks in advance

That would be a status check and, as the Announcement: Discontinuation of site status checks at the top of this forum says, we don't do those any more.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestions in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your websites and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

I would just like to commend garysu for suggesting non-commercial websites which are very likely to add value to a Locality category.

This is a fine example of the way in which non-editors can help make the directory more useful for everyone, and we certainly appreciate this sort of assistance. So thank you for taking the time to suggest these sites. :flower:

Well you have had feedback - 2 have been listed :) . The fact that they have been confirms that, in all probability, all the others are listable. There are many categories and a limited number of editors, so it will take a while before all the categories you have suggested a site to are visited. So the sites are there waiting to be reviewed and eventually will be.

regards

Um, and that is volunteer-editor level of activity. Have you considered editing your hometown category (or its Education subcategory)?

Thanks for the reply

Yes, the reason I am submitting these URLs is to improve awareness of these school websites.

At the moment most school websites here don't get a good ranking in search engines, so I feel it would be good to submit them in the directory.

To hutcheson's suggestion, I did apply for an editor role for this category. It was rejected, I guess it may be due to I didn't submit a detailed application, or it may be my grammar.

If I can be an editor of "Regional: Oceania: Australia: New South Wales: Localities:", I do have a list of a few hundreds public schools to submit to the category. Public school, no commercial.

So, any suggestion? Is there any one I can contact in the directory to have a further discussion.

Thanks makrhod.

I guess I can only hope submission to that category will be reviewed sooner than later.

You were sent feedback with advice on preparing a more successful application, and there are numerous resources to help you, including forum threads here, so there is no need to contact a volunteer. :)

However, please note that http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Oceania/Australia/New_South_Wales/Localities/ is completely unsuitable for a new editor, having over 7600 listings.
Instead, please choose a category with up to about 50-75 listings for which you can easily find 2-3 sites not yet listed. The editing guidelines will help you find suitable sites and write acceptable titles and descriptions for them. Good luck!

I've submitted another application a few days ago for
Top: Regional: Oceania: Australia: New South Wales: Localities: V (33)

I believe this category is fairly small, 33 entries, and I've put down a lot more detail in application form, including the 3 school website examples that I would like to submit.

Now there isn't any feedback yet, not rejected or approved.

Last time it was rejected quite quickly, at least I know the result of my application.

So, not sure what to say, but it seems this is not really working for me.

Reviewing applications, like all editor activities, is done by volunteers, in this case by metas and catmods. Most applications are reviewed within a couple of weeks, unless they are in a language spoken by few of those with permissions to review them.
Applications which are rejected very quickly are generally those with very obvious reasons, but reviewing a decent application takes between 5 and 20 minutes, so we ask applicants to be patient until a volunteer feels like spending his or her time in this way. :)

After 14 days, applicants are invited to ask about the status of their editor application in this forum, by following the advice at the beginning of the "Becoming an Editor".

This one may require more thought before accepting or rejecting....which would be a good sign.
