Suggest URL: Email Field

When suggesting a URL, the user is asked for his/her email address before submission.

Does this email address have to be an email address from the domain URL that you are actually suggesting?

IE: If I suggest the URL www.example.com, does the email have to be user@example.com?

Can anyone advise me on what this email address will be used for?

The e-mail address is used for a number of purposes, but perhaps the most important from your perspective is that the address is used in the event an editor wishes to contact the suggester.

It doesn't happen too often, but it does happen, and when it does it is usually to the suggester's advantage.

Any valid e-mail address is acceptable.

No, it doesn't have to be the same domain; it often isn't.

It's not used for much; I guarantee it doesn't go on any kind of mailing list, temporary or permanent. Very occasionally editors will contact a submitter. Very very occasionally.

No, the suggest url field is there for surfers to suggest their favorite sites, not really for webmasters to suggest their own. Therefore, if used as originally intended, the url will almost never match the domain. In reality, most submission are made by webmasters for their own sites, and editors rarely look at the email field.
