Suggesting Multiple Sites

Hello,

I am a virtual assistant and part of my work is submitting my client's sites to DMOZ. Most recently, I suggested [URL Remove] in the category of "Business: Business Services: Office Services Secretarial Services & Virtual Assistants" on June 22, 2010. I also suggested [URL Remove] to "Business: Management: Consulting: Executive Coaching: North America: United States" on June 22, 2010. To date the sites have not been added and my client has not received a confirmation from DMOZ saying it has been received.

I also suggested my own site [URL Remove] three months ago and I haven't received any acknowledgement about the suggestion. Should I receive a receipt acknowledgement email from DMOZ? If not, what should I look for to know if my suggestions have been unapproved?

Thank you in advance,
Electra Ford

The acknowledgment screen that you see after suggesting a site is the only communication that you will receive. Additional emails are not sent.

If not, what should I look for to know if my suggestions have been unapproved?

You can judge for yourself if a site will be listed by checking our public guidelines.

Hi Artisan,

Thank you for the prompt reply. O.k., I read the public guidelines and the sites generally not included. The sites I have and have added meet the guidelines to be included.

I now have two more questions:

1. Can you tell me if the websites I have suggested on June 22nd will be approved? If so, when approximately to give a date to my client.

2. Can you tell me if the website I suggested three months ago will be approved? If so, when approximately to check back.

Thank you,
Electra

No, we can't.

No, we can't.

Editors are volunteers who work where, when, and how often they choose, and the pool of suggested sites is only one tool they can use to build up their categories. Which means that we cannot give any kind of time estimate. It could be days, or it could be years...or never. By suggesting the sites, you've done all that you can do for your client(s).

Perhaps you misunderstood the purpose of the ODP. We aren't a listing service, and never have been one. We're a group of volunteers who want to build a directory as a hobby. Although we do accept site suggestions, we don't list them in any particular time frame. Sites can be reviewed anywhere from minutes to years after they've been suggested. We even list sites without them being suggested.

At some point in time, we don't know when, a volunteer will take an interest in a category. The editor might take a look at suggestions. Or they might decided that the suggestion pool is pretty dire and that digging through the spam isn't worth the time and go looking on the Internet (or elsewhere) for good sites.

It is a bad idea to keep suggesting sites since you can't find them to be listed. It can have a negative effect.

Since you are evidently being paid for something that your clients can do for free, I would suggest that you closely review the title and description guidelines and suggest any new suggestions with guideline-compliant titles and descriptions. If an editor decides to cherry-pick a category pool, guideline-compliant titles and descriptions can really stand out.

We have no idea and no way to predict when sites will be reviewed. And we don't review sites upon request in this forum per the TOS. Please see Announcement: Discontinuation of site status checks at the top of this forum.

Hi Motsa,

Thank you for the confirmation that after I submit a site I have done everything I could do.

Best regards,
