Instead of answering site submission status requests manually, why not set up a web interface that allows anyone to check the status of a website?

I ask because I filed my website for the first time over a month ago (maybe more) and got no reply. I don't mind waiting longer, but it would be good to know whether my application got rejected or is still being processed.

Clarification: I'm not looking for a "time left" estimate, just a simple "awaiting processing" versus "rejected". Nothing less, nothing more. The value added is that I will know whether I need to go back and resubmit my application (after cleaning it up) or there is nothing left for me to do.

Thank you,
Gili

We chose not to process status requests at all for several reasons. Apart from the threads mentioned, see the FAQ for more details.

You don't need a rejection from the ODP to signal that you need clean up your site.

If you think the ODP is going to increase the eyeballs at your site, then clean it up now before they get to see it.

about the "auto reply" feature.

some ppl like myself mick have scr**ed up by submiting too many time for example. not knowing what happened to our earelier submition.

My Idea for the Auto reply would have 2 maybe 3 possible reply. I think that would help the ppl submiting there links and the editors.

  • submition recieved
  • email or URL banned (that of course can happen only if an automated system makes that decision.)
  • submition rejected (that is if some submitions are rejected by an automated system)

any ways good job to all the ppl making it possible

Several things:

1) We have chosen not to provide _any_ form of status reports, check the FAQ for the reasons. There even is a FAQ item about automated status checks.

2) If we had chosen to ban something, we would not want that person to know. Pretty understandable, isn't it?

[*]submition recieved
You already get this message on screen after a suggestion is amde.

[*]email or URL banned (that of course can happen only if an automated system makes that decision.)
If we have such a function we certainly aren't going to tell these spammers we know about their activities. They just would change to another url / email.

[*]submition rejected (that is if some submitions are rejected by an automated system)
We are humans. No such thing as an automated rejection.
