Time commitments of an editor

I would like to be an editor but can only spare an hour a week on average as I have a very busy schedule. Some weeks, I might be able to spend a little more time editing, other weeks, I may not have the time to do the editing.

Should I apply?

How much time on average do editors expect to spend editing their categories?

I would want to edit categories in subjects I'm very familiar with. As a webmaster, I'd eventually end up building websites in those subjects as well. If I were to be an editor, would I still be able to submit those sites into ODP into the categories I'm editing?

As much as they want. s you can imagine, we prefer editors with loads of time. But thats the exeption, not the rule nowadays. Of course, without a certain amount of participation you won't usually be granted large categories, but even that is more a question of quality.

You might want to read the chapter conflicts of interest in our guidelines.

It will probably take "several hours" to get acquainted with the tools, guidelines, etc. But an hour a week is several site reviews in your local hometown, favorite hobby, etc.: say 200 or so edits a year. Yes, we'd take that with gratitude.
