Title Question

Hi,

if the domain name of a site is for example widgetsupplies.com, is it okay to put the title of the site as:

Widget Supplies .com

?

Thanks!

If it was the title of the site, yes. If the site was called "Widget Supplies", we'd use that, if it was "WidgetSupplies.com" then we'd use that.

I was going to call it (for example) "Widget Supplies", but in this particular category, that title is already taken, hence my addition of .com at the end.

I guess the next question is, can two sites have the same title?

Sorry, my original question, the 'Widget' and 'Supplies' and '.com' had spaces in between them in the title - that is the distinction I am asking about, even thought the url is 'widgetsupplies.com'

I would be very reluctant to use that as a name.

WidgetPrices.com is a legitimate URL, and if someone wants to use a URL as a site name, it's their choice.

"Widget Prices Inc." is a legitimate-looking company name, which in many categories is what we use for the title regardless of what the user supplies.

"Widget Prices .com" is neither fish nor fowl. It is not a URL, although a lot of internet-dufus FontPlague users think it is (and so we see a number of such URLs that we know we need to fix.). To someone with a clue, it just looks like a typo. I'd look really hard to find the REAL name of the company, or the website.

I'd do the same thing for URLs like "cheap-generic-viagra-buy-your-viagra-for-less-at-anonymous-website.com"

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I'm coming across properly, I'm trying to make sure that I am not submitting anything that goes against guidelines or protocal.

I guess my real question is:

Can two submissions in the same category have the same title?

In this particular situation, without naming domains, the domain 'widgetsuppliesinc.com' has the title 'Widget Supplies'. I think the domain 'widgetsupplies.com' should have the title 'Widget Supplies'

But the domain in question is 'Widgetsupplies.com'. Can that domain have the title 'Widget Supplies'or do I have to distinguish the title? Hence my separating the 'widget' 'supplies' '.com' with spaces.

Instead of asking what I cannot do, perhaps may I ask what I can do in this situation?

Thanks

This is possible. If nothing else, the descriptions will differentiate between the two sites. :monacle:

Yes, this does sometimes happen, even in business or church categories. (How many "First Methodist Church" sites are there in Virginia? It's not our business to tell them what to call their church. The description would simply mention what city they are first in.)

But normally we would try to differ between them. But don't care about it, we will fix it to whatever we think is apropriate anyway. I for myself look at the town (in topical categories) or the owners name for a second distinction. I might write something like:

Widget Supplies Adam Smith - ...
Widget Supplies David Brown - ...

(of course only if that is possible. I won't make up any names)

But as I said: Don't worry about that, if we think we like another tiutle best, we will simply put it there. ;)
