Hi there,

I run two businesses in the UK, jawat Computers a regional Computer Services Company with a web site at jawat.com, and Inks 4 Less a printer consumables business selling Nationally via the Internet at inks4less.co.uk.

Until recently both were listed in the Directory under seperate categories. Jawat Computers in Regional/Europe/United Kingdom/Engald/Somerset/Wells/Business_Economy and Inks 4 Less in Computers/Hardware/Peripherals/Printers/Supplies.

In December the Inks 4 Less site was delisted and the Editor has advised me that it is because Inks 4 Less is an affiliate of Jawat.com.

Although the two sites are in the same ownership and naturally have strong links and reciprocal advertising one is not an affiliate of the other, they are two seperate businesses.

Jawat Computers is a regional business and the web site is used primarily as a service page for my local customers (it is installed as a home page on many computers systems) and visibility on the Internet is not a priority.

Inks 4 Less is a National business depending heavily on Internet visibilty and inclusion in the directory is much more important to my customers and my business and of course of greater value to the community.

If I cannot have both sites listed, can I please choose to have Inks 4 Less.co.uk listed at the expense of Jawat.com and if so how do I do this?

I think inks4less.co.uk is not listable in the ODP, on the usual grounds (hey, on the ONLY grounds.)

jawat.com, on the other hand, is listable, as it offers unique content -- you are the only one who can authoritatively tell the world what you yourself can do (and will do) and for how much money.

That's the ODP guidelines.

If you're interested in website promotion, we're not. You need to find someone who is (and there are a great many such people.)

We ARE interested in people being able to find information about other people who'll do things for hire. So we're interested in one site (thanks for helping us find it) and not the other (no thanks, and please don't spam our submittal system with it). It is not your choice what we're interested in, so no, you can't choose which to list.

That's the way independence works. You choose what websites you publish and promote. We choose which websites we recommend.
