Two years of waiting to get listed?

Hi!

We are a well known open source software project (at present we have almost 10,000 downloads per months) and so I also tried to get our site listed in the dmoz directory in the according directory.

So two years ago i submitted the site a first time.
Nothing.. absolutely nothing happened.
After 6 months I submitted a second application - at that time I thought I had made a mistake in my wording or something and therefore my application was denied.

Same thing happened: Nothing.

And still I blamed myself or the workload on the editors.
So I put in application as an editor for that specific category. This time (after three more months) I got notified that my application was denied because there are enough editors.

I tried 2 months ago for a last time to get listed. Same result.

So my question: If there are enough editors for that particular category why does my site not get listed and why do I not get any information on why it would not be listed in 2 years?

Now here comes the very bad part: As our open source software is a very strong competitor to commercial tools (and almost the only one being open source in that category) I really suspect that I am at disposal of an editor that is suppressing us to get listed because that editor is siding another software.

I know that is a very strong accusation and I would be very glad if this could be disproved.

I would be very thankful if I could get any advice how to proceed from here.
You can also contact me by PM here on the board if you wish to discuss in private.

Thank you for any help and understanding.

Regards

Carsten

The rejection reason that you're talking about says that the category is already well represented or is too broad for a new editor -- it's extremely rare that the "well represented" part applies; it's almost always that the category is too large or is too high a level for a new editor.

So two years ago i submitted the site a first time.
March 2006 was before the server crash (October 2006) which caused most waiting suggestions to be lost.
After 6 months I submitted a second application
Assuming it was to the same category it probably overwrote the one from March 2006 - sending it to the bottom of the review page *when sorted by date* - there are multiple ways of sorting, but this is one of them. However that would have been September 2006, still prior to the server crash. The suggestion was probably lost when that occurred.
So I put in application as an editor for that specific category. This time (after three more months) I got notified that my application was denied because there are enough editors.
If that wasthe only reason on the response I'd be flat out amazed. It is one of multiple reasons in the default email, and if that specific section was the reason (and not one of the others) it also said 'or is larger than we typically assign to new editors' or something to that effect (I dont have a copy handy to copy/paste). It is not always both.
If you still have the email, re-evaluate *all* the points. Only one may apply., or multiples may apply. Unless the response specifically asked you not to reapply you can still apply to be an editor. Reading the FAQ here may help http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_editor
I tried 2 months ago for a last time to get listed. Same result.
That suggestion is probably waiting for review as the sole copy suggested post crash. 2 months is not a particularly long wait in many categories. Unfortunate but true.
I know that is a very strong accusation and I would be very glad if this could be disproved.
It's a typical accusation. If you have proof, there is a public abuse reporting system to use to let us know. If you have no proof it is just a theory.

Hi,

thank you for clearing up few things. I now applied again for a small subcategory and see if and how it will work out.

Thank you again

Carsten
