I have been trying to get my site listed in DMOZ for over 1 year. After been unsuccessful for such a long time I purchase a paid submission service. Every time I receive my monthly search engine submission report, I received a status of failed for DMOZ except for one successful submission on 5/7/2005. I have discussed the categories with my search engines submission company. They have assured me that they have submitted my site to the right category. Please advice.

There is nothing to advise. We no longer provide status reports.

You do know that by submitting, or causing to submit, on a monthly basis, you are spamming the directory?

On the basis on that fact, and that fact alone I'd adise you to do two things:

1. Stop submitting.
2. Ask you SEO firm why they are billing you for their spamming activities.

Who knows, maybe they are doing other harmful things to/for you.

They have assured me that they have submitted my site to the right category.
If they are indeed incompetent enough to keep submitting your site once a month, I doubt they submitted it to the right category. I would ask for a refund from them and even threaten to sue them.

Refer them to this URL http://www.dmoz.org/add.html -->

Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.

and

Auto-submission software is (and always has been) a violation of this procedure. Sites submitted automatically are flagged and deleted after the submission is accepted, without notification to you

Search engine submission companies are scammers that have defrauded you of your money. Its the worse thing you can do for DMOZ and does not help to you for search engines either - they have riped you off.

Submission to DMOZ

I have just contacted my SEO company and they confirmed that they have only submitted once to DMOZ. They are very careful not to SPAM DMOZ.

My SEO Company submitted my site successfully on 5/7/2005. They have just explained my reports to me and informed me that my site was only submitted once which was 5/7/2005.

My SEO company told me to be patient but I am wondering if there are anything else I need to do to get my site listed in DMOZ

Please advise

No, there isn't anything else you need to do - in fact there is nothing more you can possibly do. Sounds like your SEO company has the right idea. {moz}

Shock and amazement -- yes, that's the straight scoop. But May is not at all long ago: some simple arithmetic will tell you that a category is edited, on average, less than once every six months. And of course there is no way of telling which sites will be reviewed first -- Google search results, ODP submittals, Yahoo directory listings, links from Yellow pages or magazine ads or business cards or ...

The corollary is: don't worry about it. It'll happen when it happens, and in the meantime you must have something constructive to do.
