Unique? Is it?

I found post in DP forum where guy was bragging about how easy one can be listed in DMOZ if he knows what need to be done. He even posted link to his site, probably to make his point, so I went to see what chunk of diamond he has and…. my first impression was, it must be some kind of freaking jock and guy just spammed DP to promote his article because DMOZ will never include site like that even if AOL owner owned that site.

Let me describe to you what I saw.
7 pages including Index, About, Submit, Contact, Privacy and Terms pages and of course the one that tells you how-to screw DMOZ article. Now, because that site supposes to be some kind of web directory, his Index page started that directory listing by showing first 10 entries and page bottom indicated to me that there are another 5 pages of links. Well, the problem with another 4 pages, they simply don’t exist and owner added 4 extra numbers to make his site look more presentable.

Even thou I still had my doubts if I will find that site in DMOZ, I went to see what I can found and…
I couldn’t believe what I saw. Right there in black and white that site was listed in…

Jim, you never replied to me when I asked you to define “unique” and after what we all can see, you don’t have to.

Maybe that website has changed after it got listed on DMOZ.
I can not see it listed in that category at this moment. Maybe an editor or one of our tools noticed some problem with it and removed it from public view.

BTW. If you mean jimnoble with "Jim". The footer in his posting clearly state "I prefer to answer questions in the forum and ignore uninvited PMs from non-editors."

I'm not sure why fastreplies posted here at all today. The DP post was noticed days ago and corrective action was taken immediately. The site was initially listed years ago and who knows what changes were made to it or its ownership in the interim.

Our thousands of editors aren't able to routinely eyeball our millions of listed websites and we mainly rely upon our patrolling robots and some QC reports from elsewhere to point out inadequate listed websites. It would be more efficient if the QC reports were sent to us directly (either here or by means of the category's update listing link) but, whatever the route, such outside help is both useful and welcomed.

Perhaps fastreplies is trying to continue a conversation he thinks he's having with me elsewhere. It's confusing enough when topics are discussed across several threads; attempting to do it across several forums is unlikely to produce anything useful.

Are you trying to say that poor slab took a pearl of web mastering achievement and turned it in a piece of crap just to make sure that one day DMOZ will remove his masterpiece? Well, lets just say that according to old snapshots that I managed to dig out, site wasn’t touched a bit since it conception nor since after and at the time DMOZ listed that site.

Jim, that site couldn’t be listed years ago because it came to existence only few months back. Check <URL Removed> if you don’t believe me. Now as of this morning that site was listed in DMOZ and again you will find snapshot I made in here <URL Removed

If you find listings that you feel no longer meet our Guidelines you can report them in our Quality Control forum.

The listing has been addressed and appropriate action was taken. The rest of this conversation is outside the scope of this forum so this thread is closed.

No it wasn't.

fastreplies looked at our search results, not at the live directory. Our rudimentary search gathers data from the live directory over several days and then creates its database. This means that it doesn't show recent changes. Since its primary purpose is to find an appropriate category from keywords, this isn't an issue.
