Yes, it could easily take more than two years -- and the more competitive your business, the longer it will probably take.
So spend the twenty or thirty minutes it takes to familiarize yourself with the ODP shopping taxonomy and submit your site, then ... base your site promotion plan on the assumption that the ODP will disappear from the web tomorrow afternoon. Because we won't deliberately promote your site at all; and as a side effect of our work, we'll promote your competitors just as much as you. Your ODP listing won't come when you need the ODP in order to have a big business. It will come when an editor realizes the ODP needs to list your site in order to be a comprehensive directory (and we'll then be grateful for your submittal.)
For business promotion, the ODP is a wash at best. So now get to work.
