I found this in the Editor Resource Zone under "Title Examples":

Bad Title:
www.rescience.com - Manufacturer of distillation systems used to recycle and re-use solvents used by the printing industry.

The title should never be the URL. The URL goes in the URL field

Is it appropriate to put a .___ extension in a submission title if the site is actually called "Soandso.com"?

A while back I submitted a site called "Rehatch.net". The title of my site isn't "Rehatch", but I'll resubmit it as such if necessary.

Don't worry, editors will rewrite titles as required. My experience is that less than 25% [probably way less than that] of titles are left unchanged.

To answer your question, yes, sites can be listed with the title Something.tld if that is the name on the site.
