Hi

I was asked to optimise a website a long while ago, the company basically had 5 different urls al with the same info, the one they use on marketing material isn`t the one listed on DMOZ.

I requested to update the listing with the new information, the new website is radically different now as I managed to pursuade them to let me change almost everything. The listing change was requested over 12 months ago, I understand the categories are voluntarily human edited but it is a very specialist category with few entries.

Do I just continue to wait?

Thanks.

Update requests normally are taken as a higher priority by most editors, but still it may take a while before an interested editor gets to a specific one. That being said, if you only suggested an update request one time and it was a year ago then there are two possibilities:

  1. The update request was not acceptable, i.e the requested changes would go against our guidelines and therefore could not be used. In this case the editor, if they felt changes (but not the requested ones) were in order, would reject the update request and then edit the listing as they felt appropriate within the guidelines.
  2. The update was lost in the crash. If this was the case and there is no way of knowing for sure, you should try resuggesting the update request one more time. One more attempt will insure that the update request made it through and is waiting for an editor to review it and will not be viewed as spamming.

Really it could be either of these, but if the content has changed as significantly as you suggest (note that our definition of content is not site design, so it may be different from your own) then its more probable that #2 occurred. I would suggest reading up on what makes a good description and resuggesting the update if you still feel its needed. That way you will be sure that its been brought to the attention of the editors. If nothing changes then, you can assume it was probably #1 and therefore the current listing is correct according to the Guidelines.

Hope that helps.

I missed this part on the first read through. If these other sites still exist, it would be most beneficial to everyone involved if the update request included something along the lines of "Please note the following related sites...." that way we can be sure to always consider the main URL.

If the content is essentially the same, we'd be unlikely to change which URL was listed just for marketing reasons.

However, if all of the 'extra' domain names redirected to one main one, it would be a different matter.

Thanks folks, the site is wholly different not just in design but also in the wording of the content and folder structure, however the same headings remain, i.e. the same sections are still there (home, about, services etc).

I didn`t mention in my update request that the website they have listed nw only redirects to the new website howevr.

I will resubmit and inform that the domain they have is now a simple redirect and does not exist, hopefully that will be ok.
