Hello All,

My appologies if this is a wrong (sub-)forum for posting this query. Please feel free to point me to the more appropriate place for this thread.

Here is a timeline to help you understand my attempts to list a quality site with high traffic site within the most relevant category in DMOZ:

Step 1: ~2 years ago I requested a listing in http://dmoz.org/Business/Information_Technology/Employment/Job_Search/

Outcome: The listing has never been added. The category has no editors. I noticed that the number of listings in that category has not changed in years.

Step 2: ~1 year+ ago I requested a listing in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Open_Source/Employment/

Outcome: There is an editor for that category. The listing had been approved and added shortly thereafter. It is good news although that category was my second choice (not as relevant as the one at the top of the post)

Step 3: ~1 year ago I requested to update the category for the listing to what's more relevant (http://dmoz.org/Business/Information_Technology/Employment/Job_Search/)

Outcome: The site gets dropped from the original category but never added to the more relevant one.

Step 4: I describe what happenned in one of the webmaster forums out there

Outcome: An editor, who happenned to be a member of that forum, helps me re-add the site to the category it was dropped from.

Is there any way I can successfully move the listing into the target most relevant category without it being dropped from the Open Directory for years?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
James

There is no way you can do anything to a category listing. You can make suggestions--and an editor will re-review the site with your suggestion in mind. But what is done, is based on the ODP guidelines and editorial judgment, not on the suggestion itself. (Or at least, that is what it SHOULD be based on.)

Thanks for the answer, hutcheson. I really appreciate your insight.

Sometimes it is debatable whether a listing belongs to a particular category or not. In the case of the site in question, it is as clear as it gets: the site provides Tech job listings daily and the jobs vary from full-time positions at Microsoft and Google to small open source freelance gigs.

My biggest challenge as I see it is getting listed in a commercial category that has no editor(s). The site *is* relevant for that category but the category seems rather impossible to get into.

Every category has potential editors -- the editalls and higher-level-category editors. Whether or when they edit there is ... impossible to know. Which makes them different from listed category editors ... not at all.
