update process query

I recently submitted an update to a DMOZ entry and wanted to check I understand the process. I gave a contact email address when submitting the update - am I right to think that once the update has been reviewed, it will either be published in the DMOZ listing or (if there are any problems) I'll get an email saying what the problems were?

I appreciate it may take time for updates to be reviewed - I just wanted to make sure I'll find out one way or the other when a decision is reached.

thanks,

Howard

Updates are flagged seperately to other suggestions, and are generally acted on as a priority by some editors (especially those interested in directory quality).
An editor will re-review the site when processing an update and may change the description to match the site, in accordance with the editing guidelines. This means that the suggested update may be discarded in favour of a description/title that match the site, but is different to the original. (Hint: avoid requests to stuff keywords into Titles/Descriptions)
Some editors may choose to contact you if there is some minor problem, or for clarification, but many will not. Unfortunately this is due to past experience of email exchanges becoming heated and even escalated to real life stalking of editors.
However if the update is declined, and the editor does not wish to put themselves at risk, no notification should be expected.

Thanks for the feedback. I can understand why some editors choose not to email people, if this has lead to problems/arguments previously.

But - if in a few weeks time I see no change in the DMOZ site entry that I submitted an update for, what do I do? If I just keep waiting I could end up waiting forever (editor may have rejected the update but not informed me).

On the other hand, if I try contacting the editor they may (understandably) get a bit annoyed if they simply haven't had time to review my submitted update.

What's the best approach? Any suggestions welcome!

If you see no change, then the update request has either not been looked at or it was denied as being uncompliant with our Guidelines, so just forget about it, once is enough, ;).
