update status for http://www.thecomfortcompany.net

Hello. When I initially wrote my business description, I had no idea of what to write. My current description is terrible and I would like to update it. My business is beginning to grow and it seems alot of SE have this terrible description I wrote. I have tried to update my URL but it seems that my changes are not being saved and unfortunately, this category page does not have an editor. (http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Death_Care/Memorials/. Because it doesn't have an editor will I ever be able to update my URL? If my requested updates are not appearing in the update section, are they not being saved? Sorry, I know these are simple questions, but I'm still learning about all of this. I'm a social worker by profession and all of this computer stuff makes no sense to me. Thanks for your time.

Have a look at the category: Shopping: Death Care: Memorials. Your description was updated on March 2nd. And when external data users (other directories and search engines) update, this new description will also be transferred to them.

I hope this helps.

Yours,
Robert

Hi Robert, Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't recognize the description. It isn't exactly what I had written. Do the editors edit the requests? Just wondering! I had hoped to have the keyword phrase: "sympathy gift" included in the description somewhere. I've heard that is very important, but you know, I'm just completely lost with all of this computer jargon. Pleae forgive!

All descriptions, whether initial submissions or update requests, are reviewed by editors, and may be changed to comply with ODP guidelines. In practice, I almost never see a submitted description that is guidelines-compliant, so the vast majority of descriptions are likely changed before they are added. We do try to take into account what the submitter would like to have in the description, but we have to work within the guidelines.

As it is a directory, not a search engine, the ODP is not concerned with keywords in descriptions. Many search engines (such as Google) ignore the descriptions, so you're probably much better off worrying about the design of your own page (e.g. appropriate META tags) rather than being concerned with the ODP description.

If you have any questions about how we edit descriptions, please see the ODP editing style guidelines.
